I believe that the majority of the population believes that the majority of the population is dumb.

For example, let's say you're atheist. From your perspective, most of humankind holds beliefs about super-natural beings that are not backed up by solid, scientific evidence. Put another way, 95% of the human race has decided to adopt an imaginary friend of some kind to help them cope with the struggles of life.

Let's say you're pro-life. From your perspective, the laws of the United States are set up to allow the murder of nearly 1 million babies in the U.S. every year. It's like another holocaust every 6 years. In this case, you believe that the population of the US is so dumb, that they're killing babies without even realizing it.

Or let's say you're in favor of the war in Iraq. From your perspective, people who are anti-war are undermining the effectiveness of our troops and are needlessly prolonging the war by giving encouragement to the enemy. And all because of their ignorance and close-mindedness.

And, just to show you that the positions I just picked are purely arbitrary, I will now argue the opposite:

Let's say you're a very religious person. In your mind, atheists are ignoring important emperical, intuitive, and logical evidences that point to the existence of God. And, as unfortunate as it may seem, their close-mindedness and ignorance may make them unprepared for the life to come.

Okay, let's say you're pro-choice now. From your perspective, a government that is almost completely run by men (the U.S. governemnt) is deciding whether or not women should be allowed to do what they want with their own bodies. And all of this oppression is being caused by the ignorant people in the pro-life camp who would realize they were wrong if they only stopped and thought about it for one second (I'm guessing you can sense the sarcasm by now).

And, let's say you're against the war in Iraq. From your point of view, it is hard to believe how the U.S. can continue to sacrifice so many American lives for a war that was unjust to begin with. And the ignorant majority of the United States just continues to allow it!

So to answer your question, I don't know if the majority of the population is dumb. But I do know this: the majority of the population will always think that the majority of the population is dumb.

Yes and it's even more apparent in reading some of these questions while noting people's poor spelling and grammar. I think it's primarily a failure on the student. People who can't afford a good education or that don't go to good schools don't always end up dumb. It's about one's willingness to learn. I don't think that most people (primarily Americans) can think about much more than fashion, electronics, celebrity gossip, etc...

I think the vast majority of human beings are capable of being very intelligent (book-smart), but most human beings are too freakin' lazy. Ever heard of the 80/20 rule? 80% of the people do 20% of the work? Here's a new one: 80% of the people use 20% of their intelligence. Basically, 4 out of 5 people you come across on a daily basis have decided to use their brains as little as possible. It's not that they can't learn -- they just don't care.

Yes, I believe the majority of the population is dumb. The dumbest people I've ever met live here in MT. It seems to stem from many years of insest and inbreeding.
I believe everyone has the same ability to learn, but your upbringing, your surroundings, and especially life experience may limit your chances of learning.

This is hard to say. Anyone who is dumb, insults other people and doesn't think normally. That is what makes a person dumb, and ironically there are a lot of people like that.

No. I just think that a lot of people could study harder. Why, I would have gotten C or D in Biology, if I hadn't studied till midnight for three weeks, to raise my grade A+.

your question ,doest make sense . nor do u ,
i really don't think ,the word dumb really applys to any one ,
unless you cant speck,
however the word ,dumb ,means, the state of lacking intelligence . if this is what your are referring to?, then yes ,at least 50 % of the world ,are lacking in intelligence.
but on saying that , i still find your question odd to say the least ..........

Many people are 'ignorant' which is latin for: they do not know, and many of those don't care. They find most of education to be completely unnecessary to live their lives and do their jobs. I'd say number 4.
