Rabbits are very cute but they are naturaly destructive especially if they are kept indoors. They are much more suited to living outdoors with a large run on grass and with a more natural way of life they can still come indoors and can still be very cute and cuddly but they need excercise or they will get bored and destructive.

What? That's a silly thing for anyone to say.

Like humans, all animal's are individuals. They all act differently. You can't base an opinion on the entire species based on one or two experiences!

If this lady has had rabbits that have turned 'nasty and destructive' I would suggest she either isn't keeping them in the best conditions/environment, or she's just being plain silly. Rabbits chew yeah, it's what they do. House rabbits can chew through things like cables, or chew wooden furniture, but it's just what they do, they're not 'nasty and destructive'.

I'd ignore anyone who makes a judgement about an entire species, that's just dumb!

One word: Puberty

That, and not getting the rabbit spayed/neutered.

Now, not all rabbits get major personality changes at puberty. But it is common for them to start marking territory (urine and feces), to be more aggressive about their territory, and to be a bit more destructive because they are after all still babies. Spay/neuter fixes a lot of those problems by reducing the hormones causing the territoriality. It also is very important for females because they are very likely to get uterine cancer which can be fatal.

This is what happens when people get rabbits without researching them, and many of these poor rabbits are dumped in shelters soon after puberty. This is also why most rabbit rescue groups recommend that first-time owners adopt a somewhat older rabbit that is already spayed/neutered.

You also have to keep in mind that rabbits are intelligent and have teeth that constantly grow. They need appropriate, interesting toys to wear their teeth down on. And they need their toys rotated so they don't get completely bored with them and eat your house's woodwork and carpet instead.

They don't become nasty and destructable if they are well looked after and are given enough attention when they are younger. My rabbit was given to me and she was 3 years old. She was nasty and destructable. Now, a year, on, she has changed so much and this shows she just wanted a bit of love!! A rabbit is likely to be nasty if it feels threatened also, so you have to teach them to trust you by being friendly towards them!

If you leave your bunny alone without any attention it may become aggressive from loneliness. A rabbit that is handled and loved on a daily basis will be a gentle and calm pet. They can be easily trained to use a litter box, and can really be very charming pets with proper care. You may want to get a male neutered to avoid territorial marking and nasty odors. They also need plenty of hard things to gnaw on of their own, they need to grind down their teeth to avoid overgrowth and if nothing is offered they will gnaw on anything available-even your furniture legs.

it could be because when a bunny is young it is probably oblivious so it isnt really rude or mean but then when it gets to know its surroundings and as it gets older it could have a bad temper

They will chew light cords and "go" anywhere. They are wonderful outside if you have a good pen that they can't burro out of.
Have you lost a wallet? I found one and there is a receipt in it for rabbit supplies. Contact me.
