Well.. is it impairing your daily living so much that you really needed to address this issue of jumpiness?
It's natural to be jumpy and some people are more jumpy than others - it may not be an issue of nervousness or anxiety.
Unless you do realise that you get anxious and nervous with a lot of things that other people would not be, you really should not be too concerned. Because the more wary you want to be, the more easily you would be startled easily because you would become so tensed. Get it?

I can see by the Avatar you chose that you are probably jumpy. Buddy, get rid of the frown and the "torn" picture and build a better self-image. Maybe it will help. Don't you think?

^ I would need more information, is this something new or have you always been this way?
If it's something new you need to think back to when it started, maybe by analyzing what happened you can stop the behavior.
If you've always been this way, you might just be a very nervous/high strung person.
This may sound silly, but have you had your hearing checked, maybe your hearing is to acute. You might hear sounds louder than the rest of us. Good luck, I hope this helps.

sounds like you are not aware of what is going on around you. you are too focused on one thing. situational awareness will ease jumpiness.

Try hanging out with people more often.
My boyfriend has the same thing as you, and since he's been intimate with me/hung out with friends, it's put him a bit more at ease.

This is fear that you feel and it causes anxiety. Only you can get to the bottom of this. Meds may be helpful while you sift this out. Tell your physician. It's a miserable feeling tho, I've experienced it.
