No, it won't be as potent. Also, the principle of half-life has probably started work on it, and some parts of the medication will be less effective than others. If they were meant to be in a certain balance in order to keep you, the patient, safe, then the medication may not only be less potent, it might be possibly dangerous.

NO, because it probaly has lost it's affect to fight off any infection or medical problem that it was prescribed for. Just discard it or bring it in to a drug store and tell the pharmacists that this medication has expired and they will know what to do with it. If you are asking because you need the prescription and you found out it expired, go to the doctor's office and make an appointment with the doctor even though you wait in the doctor's office for 1/2 hour and it takes 1 week to make an appointment still have the doctor make a new prescription for you.

medications have expiration dates for a reason. some lose their potency and don't work, others actually begin to break down and change their chemical structure and become something else entirely, and can and have caused serious illness and death. Throw all expired medications down the toilet, do not risk your health.

They still are good but not AS good. They start to loose their ablitiy to help with whatever issue you have the longer they sit on your shelf. They won't hurt you though, they just as effective.
