One of my friends said that you can access the japanese and american PSN on a European PS3...does anyone know what you need to do? Thanks!

Just google something like 'guide to japanese PSN' follow the steps it gives you...it's really easy and only takes 10 mins max.

not on a retail one. he may have read about a mag or suchlike doing it, but they probably have access to the developement version which doesn't have the same restrictions
