"Even if it delays modernization in equatorial Africa by fifty years, the preservation of the rain forests is well worth the cost".

Do you agree with this? Explain in detail, please.

Aye, and there is no need to explain in detail when you already know of global warming, the cause, and what one thing out of many will hinder, stop, and in time repair such.

I agree and disagree. The rain forests are important for many reasons. Biological diversity, removing carbon emissions from the air, preventing soil erosion and water pollution. Removing the rain forest will create undue hardship for the people who live there, since it will change the entirety of their ecology.

However, modernization must be tempered with the best of intentions to provide the local inhabitants with the ability to have some control over modernization, and utmost care be taken to prevent them from bearing the burden of preservation. (Since the whole world will reap the benefits, it only makes sense that the costs should be shared. Not that that will happen, but it's a good idea, morally speaking.) Also, care must be taken to not destroy their culture or alienate them.

It's a problem with no good solution.

No I don't, no more than I believe in letting millions of africans die from malaria instead of using ddt to kill mosquitos. I've learned over the years not to take claims by environtmentalist too seriously, 30 years ago they claimed another ice age was coming, suddenly global warming will kill us all. Or the classic in the late 80s or early 90s when a space shuttle was sent up to investigate an ozone hole supposedly forming over north america which strangely vanished when the shuttle went up to study it.

with that and with taking over Brazil and forcing the restoration of the Amazon Rain Forest... the Rain Forests are VITAL to the continuation of life on this planet...ALL of the rain forest of the Earth should be restored fully.... if there are too many people... sterilize them.

ltw read the question and nailed it pretty well. what does destroying the forest got to do with modernization (although that's typically what happens).

besides who are we to determin if the people in africa want modernization{pollution, crime, overcrowding, taxes,a class society[rich vs, poor],hate, jealousy, stress, rushing}.

No, the people in Africa will die in days. why prolong their agony for another 50 years by allowing more people to suffer?

it sounds bogus. you don't have to destroy a rain forest to modernize any area.... i have seen many modern homes/lives in forests... without destroying their surroundings
