Hi,
what do you think would really make your mom start to take you seriously and support you?
Does she know what actors do? REALLY? Does she know what it's like being an actor? Does she know what you really have to go through to become an actor?
Do YOU know the answers to those questions? Do you know what it's like and what the issues actors face, what it's like to work on set, what your chances are of just getting work, how hard you'll have to work, how much you will have to invest of your time and energy to study, to do mailings, to write cover letters, to submit yourself for auditions, to prepare for auditions, prepare your monologues, bone up on your cold reading skills, take specialization classes, travel, etc.
Do you know what the average earnings are of an actor these days? Do you know how many days on the average an actor works.
Do you know what it takes to become an actor and do you have what it takes?
Have a look at the following links:
http://www.actingcareerstartup.com to see some of the issues actors face while trying to get work.
http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/working_as_an_actor.html to see what it can be like day to day looking for work.
http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/a_working_actor.html to see what it was like for me once on the set of an independent film.
That's a lot of questions I know and I asked them on purpose.
Why?
Because if you can start to answer all those questions, maybe you will be more convincing. I know you're young, but you have to get started sometime. Some teenagers have someone who is an adult and who supports them in their goals. You don't so you can either keep butting heads with your mom or being afraid to approach the subject, or you can start to find out for yourself.
In other words, the more information you have, the more informed you are about what you say you want, the more you can talk about it intelligently and demonstrate that you know what you are talking about, the greater your chances of being able to convince her to support you. If she has just as much information as you do, then you are on an equal playing field. She's your mom, bigger and older and she wins!
Is that the way you want it? No? Then get a move on and start doing your homework! :-)
Does doing your homework mean that you will get what you want in the end? Not necessarily. Your mother is certainly taking into consideration your best interests. But even if you don't get her to support you, you will know a lot more than you do now about the profession you say you want to pursue.
Go to the site: http://www.actingcareerstartup.com and download a free e-booklet titled: What It Takes To Become An Actor. All you have to do is sign in and you can download it for free. It will help you understand more and get you started off in the right direction.
Good luck!
Tony

It is so difficult. If you are in the states in may be easier... I'm in Canada and make films. So I know tons of Actors. At the end of the day if you are REALLY talented you can get theatre gigs and audition for films but actually getting in film is very hard.
Basically know that you may not make money doing it and if it is your passion do it but think of something you can do to bring money in so you can have some form of stability. You need it to be flexible so you can audition when called.
But then again... some people have sacrificed everything been poor struggled then made it. Others have done the same and are still poor. it is a risk but if you need to do it then go for it.
I work full time but refuse to give up film making. so do it anytime, anyway I can. But as my time is not 100% dedicated to film i miss opportunities.

Yes, forget it. You got taken by the most well known scam artist in the industry. If you didn't even know to stay away from JRP you know absolutely nothing. Your parents are right. If you want to do this when you get older go ahead. Until then just be a kid and act in the school play. You don't want your parents to get robbed of any more money do you?

a lot of people are famous for crappy reasons.
let's take tara reid for example. she is a famous actress, but.... she's more famous for her skankiness and her red carpet boob flash than she is for her movie roles.
of course, whatever you want to be famous for, you probably want it to be something respectable.
and i think the most important advice anyone could give you is to put a lot of time into whatever you wanted to do.
positive attitude and confidence is important, but you need to keep a critical eye on what you're doing at the same time, so that you keep improving.
i'd like to be famous too.......

Well if I ever turn out to be popular I desire it is for song. My best worry is, I'm highly individual and would not wish my private existence available in the market. And I would not wish different individuals to come back stalking me.

"Being famous" is NOT a career. It doesn't come with a regular paycheck [residuals excepted].
I answered this identical question last night -- please click on my profile, find the question, and read the lengthy answer I provided. [Basically, you can't choose to be famous -- all you can do is be great, and if the right material crosses your path that will happen.]

Acting is not fun, it's a lot of hard work. Actors make their roles look believable. If you want fun, join a circus.

Very easy, just get tens of millions of people to know who you are. Bingo, you're famous.
