I'm getting a lot of grief for being interested in a guy who's 8 years younger than me (I'm 30, he's 22). I didn't know initially that he was that much younger, and was not "looking" to date a much younger guy. I've never dated someone younger before in fact. We both really like each other, but I'm wondering whether I should even pursue the relationship further because of the nasty comments. Mainly from women, which really disappoint me- why would women especially be so upset? Don't women think we have the right to date younger guys, just like men can date younger women? I'd understand it more if I was like 30 or 40 years older than this person, but there's not even a 10 year age difference! I'm trying to not let all this outside pressure/comments bother me, but what gives? :(

If you can handle a guy that young, more power to you. I wouldn't worry for you, I doubt it will last for a very long time. Sorry, but that's what I think, so don't worry about what other people say, just enjoy your time with him, cos it won't last long. Remember, guys are stupid.

It's the curse of double standards. It's okay for a man to date a younger woman but if a woman had a younger man, she's robbing the cradle. I think it's great when an older woman dates a younger man. It shows that as we women age, we can still turn some heads ;). I think that there is nothing wrong with it. If you want a good movie that addresses those concerns about older women and younger men, watch How Stella Got her Groove Back.

Oh, it's the age-old double standard--people just wink at each other and give a guy a pat on the back if he's seen with a girl half his age; if a woman dates a younger guy, she MUST be some pathetic hag. I've never been there (I'm only 23) but I've seen it and I think it's a lousy social standard. I think it's even funnier that it's almost always WOMEN who are critical of other women--and we wonder why men still hold all the world power...We're too busy b**ching each other out to make a difference in issues that MATTER.
Anyway, don't listen to the naysayers--it's your life, your bed and your heart. They're probably just jealous because they can't even score in their OWN age range.

Ignore the comments. In general most men don't show age as much as women, that may account for why older men, younger women couples are more common. Probably most of the negative comments from women are because they realize they couldn't attract a younger man while you obviously can. It's easier for them to say it's wrong than admit they would if they could.

Honestly, I haven't a clue why it would bother them. They shouldn't have any say in it at all as a matter of fact. The only people it concerns is you and the guy you're dating. Everyone else should stay out of it.

Like you said, it's only 8 years. As long as it doesn't bother either of you then there's nothing at all wrong with it. Tell anyone that does have a problem with it to mind their own business.

Good luck!

Honestly, those women are JEALOUS! If they are younger girls, its because you are hot enough to score a younger man that they couldn't get even though they are closer in age. If its older women, they are jealous because they have an old man at home who can't give out the love like those younger guys! So I would not let it bother you one bit, HAVE FUN! Like you said, the guys do it and know one cares.

Let people talk, because they'll always find something to talk about anyway. Your 'e both are adults...period. And yah, no one bats an eye if it were the other way around, do they. We live in a sexist world sister! And sounds like the other girls are just jealous! Live for yourselves and you guys are having a great time together..then, there's your answer!

I say if you really like eachother then that is all that matters!! Dont let peoples reactions affect you in a negative way. Age is nothing but a number and seeing how you are both legal and mature enough to make your own decisions, do what makes you happy.....whos life is it yours or everyone elses!! Best of Luck!!

i have never really thought about this but i have a friend who is also dating a guy younger 1 yr then her. n they seem to b fine. it has been a yr since they r 2gather. i think ppl r just not used to girls dating younger guys. if u both think u guys can handle it then i dont think nething else should matter. yes it does bother when nasty comments are passed but then think over it... can u overcome them? if no n u think they r going to bother u n create problems then i dont think u should b wit him. if u think that overtime its going to b fine then go ahead. otherwise i think u can find some1 else...

You're legal. He's legal. Neither is forcing the other to do anything. Don't let others comments, which may come from jealousy, push you one way or the other. Of course, when you were 22 he was in 9th grade.

Theyre probably just jealous that you can get younger men... I believe its for the stereotypical idea of a relationship, the man is older, taller, stronger.... but i wouldnt worry about that. If hes gonna make you happy go for it! When people see youre happy they wont judge you.. theyll just be happy for you! If you want him and he wants you... get him! Good look!
