I installed my new air conditioner as instructed in my manual. I think it may be slanted backwards a tad more than recommended. Anyways, she started up fine, but after about 20 minutes began to make a noise that sounded like the fan was rubbing on something slightly. I beleive, water is building up inside the air conditioner and not evaporating/draining properly. This is causing the fan to slosh water inside the unit.

Anyways, my questions are:
* Can this be possible?
* How can I fix the noise?
* Is this dangerous?
* Or am I just an idiot?

Thanks in advance.

Tilted too far back will cause fan to rub if it is a cheaper unit with substandard thrust bearings. Next to use level and tilt back to at most 1/2 a bubble off level from front to back with back lower. And needs to be lever across from side to side.

To work properly they do need a little water in the pan. This brings up did you put the drain nozzle which came with it in before installing it? If not you need to do that as well.

Also if it is a cheaper unit you might want to oil the fan motor bushing good.especially if it was made in China. They can't seem to ever get things lubed enough. Even have that problem with sealed bearing we get from China at plant.

Another possibility you might have left some packing material in it and the fan is hitting it. Did that once myself and I know better, just was not watching it because in a hurry to get to bed.

DO NOT DRILL A HOLE IN THE BOTTOM!
unless of course you need to pay somebody to seal and recharge the unit. that would be silly.
