How are we enlightened people if we still speak of destroying other religions?

my example comes from here Y!A.... Islam delenda est.....Islam must be destroyed.....how can this be right? violence begets more violence.......

I seem to remember Catholics and Protties killing each other......

and not for nothing but if my screen name contained a statement about destroying Jews or Christians I would be removed so fast it would make your head spin....destroy Muslims ok tho'

I truly believe that religion is an age old means of social control, that is nothing new. What I find repulsive is that people wrap themselves in cloaks of righteousness, while calling for the demise of others. We are so smug in our arbitrary assignment of value when it comes to people we do not agree with. The hypocrisy is was gets me.....

oh we are so tolerant, we are so "good"....but racism against Arabs is ok....

and he is no better than the terrorist whom wants us to be destroyed. If he is a Christian, he is obviously misinformed as to what Christianity stands for. You have every right to defend yourself, but it's not our job to destroy another religion.

How can we be enlightened people if will still allow mythology to hold sway over our lives. Islam is just one of the more insidious religions and needs to be destroyed just as christianity does.

I may certainly be a fascist. But destroying religion is good for mankind, and if you don't believe that I now know I'm smarter than you. Wanting religion destroyed to free man is not what makes me a fascist.

If you look at virtually every other religion on the face of this earth, there is not one which condones the death of others who are not of that particular religion. All other religions are tolerant of other religions. Islam is not. If it truly were a religion of peace, then there would be no problem, but until that religion grows up out of the 2ND century, it will not be allowed to continue to kill others for no reason whatsoever.

That's how religion is. The story goes as follows: "My religion is better than yours". That's all. Everyone against everyone else, you know? Religion is the greatest cause of war, always has been. The Catholic Church, for example, has a very bloody history, like all religion.

I consider myself enlightened, in that I don't need the answer. I don't even need to ask the question.
I don't care what anyone believes but I would like to see an end to religion. It is merely a method of control, through fear of the unknown and unknowable.

True. Violence begets violence, hatred begets hatred.

But as a civilization and a species, we have not reached a point where we have eliminated violence and hatred. So, people justify those claims under a "get them before they get us" form of preemptive self defense.
