Myself and two of my best friends are planning to move to Australia within the next 6-7months. We are obtaining working visa's for a period of up to one year, however we're not sure which city we'd like to move to.
We are all 21 years old, love the beach, nightlife & shopping. However, we don't want to spend over $550(max) each on rent. So thats a 3 bedroom for $1650 per month. Any ideas??
Thanks in advance!:)

i realize now that alot of houses/apartments/flats are rented by the week. In that case we would like to spend up to $400 per week MAX.

Well I am bias as I live here – But I think Cairns in North Queensland is the BEST place – Warm / Tropical surrounded by rainforest and alot of beaches!

So much to do and see all the time and ALOT safer than the bigger cities.
You will be spending most of your time in your bikinis as it's so hot here always. We have the Great Barrier Reef on our doorstep so heaps of swimming and adventure out there.
http://www.cairnsesplanade.com A massive lagoon and playground, skateboard park and recently they’ve added a volleyball court …swimming right in the city - what more could you want ! .....then short strolls to the malls for shopping.

For $400 a week you can get a huge very nice apartment on the beach or right in the city. For more on rentals go to http://www.realestate.com.au - click on rentals then the place/city you want to search - this will give you an idea what you can get for your dollars. I would suggest Trinity Beach or Palm Cove, 15 from the city, living right on the beach for a tropical lifestyle. .. or of course right in town.

If Cairns doesn't take your fancy then I would suggest the Gold Coast - Surfers Paradise.

Beach, nightlife and shopping means one destination only - Sydney. No other city in Australia has all three in abundance. It is a great city with everything 21 year olds could desire with all tastes catered for.
One problem with rental accommodation is that the minimum lease is usually six months. There are places with shorter leases but they tend to be more expensive. If you choose to live in popular areas, you can expect rents to be higher as well. Furnished houses cost more than unfurnished.
Take a look at the Sydney Morning Herald on a Saturday http://www.smh.com.au You will be able to check the classified advertisements for housing rentals and jobs as well. You will soon get the idea of which are the cheaper and which the more expensive areas.

Try Fremantle WA it has all the things you want and you will get a job in the hospitality industry easy because most workers have taken advantage of the mining boom so there is shortage but the rent is a bit more than you want pay but if you look around you might be lucky.
If you are willing to pay up to $400 a week accommodation wont be a problem.

It depends on what you want.
If you want to move there cheaply, then you should live in a rural area, preferably in South Australia.
If you like the beach and the city, you should check out Sydney, the Gold Coast, or Cairns.
But it also depends on what occupation you wish to have.

Cairns or Sydney--I'd prefer Sydney, to be honest. When I went to Australia last summer, Sydney was our first stop, and it was definately the best. It was fun to be out in the nightlife when we watched a show at the Opera House. The streets were so busy, it was just so beautiful to me. (I live in a small, small town...)
So, Yay! to Sydney!
