i just dont understand why people are willing to take their pets to the vet for every little thing. Every question on here is answered with "take it to the vet". vets can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars.. theres no way im paying that much for a visit. if my pet is going to cost that much then my pet is taking a long walk in the woods. I have had many pets and ive never been to the vet. I have two cats and we just lost a dog because it got sick, yup took it to the woods. i take care of them, keep them happy and fed, but theres no way im spending that much on my pet... Just wanted to know how others feel about this.

ps. any answers talking about not taking kids to hospital too will be ignored, because of absolute stupidity, animals are not humans they are food, pets are just ones lucky enough not to be eaten

If there's nothing wrong with your pet, your vet bill isn't going to cost 'hundreds of thousands of dollars.' If you think there's something wrong with your animal then it's your duty as a pet owner to seek out medical attention - it's not like your dog can walk into a veterinary clinic, rattle off a list of symptoms, and get medication. Providing your animals with adequate veterinary care is a basic component of responsible pet ownership and people who aren't willing to do so shouldn't be blessed with owning pets.

Vets are really expensive and I think it's wrong that they cost so much because many people can not afford it but I think that if you have a pet you need to take it to the vet. Pets are usually like people's family to them that's why people are willing to pay whatever they have to to save their pets life. When your dog got sick if you had taken it to the vet it would probably still be alive. I think that if you dont want to pay too much for a pet that you really shouldnt have one. When you get a pet it is YOUR responsibility to take care of it until it dies. It cant take care of itself so it depends on you for its life. I think that you are way to selfish to be a pet owner and I really hope that you dont get any more pets.

I take my dog to the vet for serious things and general check ups. That is the responsiblity I took on when I got a pet. I do not have and do not want kids so yes I do treat my dog like a kid. That is my right as it is many people. P.S I like animals over most people especially kids

Within the farm co-op, we have a Vet who cares for the livestock and pets. So we don't have any Vet costs. She provides her Vet services in exchange for her share of the food grown in the co-op.
But if I did have to pay, I would take my pets to the Vet whenever necessary. Taking care of my dogs & cats is MY responsibility as a pet owner. Anything less is reprehensible.

I don't understand your reasons for wanting a pet in the first place if you're not willing to make the comittment to keep it happy and healthy. How could you possibly love an animal only when it's healthy? Or stop loving it so that you don't have to pay for it to return to health? If you want something that's 'disposable' when it's not perfect anymore, you should get a Chia Pet.

great animal vets and farm vets are kinda the comparable element. Its purely what they talk approximately. A vet could paintings with the two great animals and livestock because of the fact they are very simular. desire this facilitates you in any respect :)

You shouldn't have animals. When you buy/adopt an animal you take on the responsibility of getting it medical attention when the dog needs it. Whether or not it costs hundreds or thousands of dollars. I have a 9 y/o, 3 foot Mangrove Monitor. My dad had her in a 55 gallon tank, I bought her a LARGE cage, 5x5x4 feet = 5 grand, out of my own pocket, I just turned 16 today, I did it because I love my animals and they deserve the best, if no one else is going to do it, I will...and my dad wouldn't buy her the cage she needed....so I did. You need to find new homes for your animals until you are ready to take care of them.

MY kid is lucky if she gets to go to the Dr.
Baxter had surgery because he ingested a bathing suit top and I told her to take his antibiotics and vice versa. We do have quite a collection of meds and we have been to vets in the past and know how to treat most things. But I am feeling the same. They can be costly and if I took them everytime they sneezed I would be broke.

The reason why this writer - who is not a licensed qualified veterinarian - advises to take a pet to the vet is to avoid liability. There are laws against practicing veterinary medicine without a license in all 50 states (U.S.) so to avoid those kinds of frivolous lawsuits that clog the system - we will advise the questioner to seek qualified professional help.
And I feel sorry for your pets.
You're a monster.
