Anything that can get people reading and talking cannot be evil, not when the topics are the value of friendship; that good will always overcome evil; that love is the purest form of 'power;' life should not be taken for granted; family is forever...seems to me that these are the basic tenets of any faith are they not?

Of course, that this is all fiction cannot, as you mention, be ignored. Wonder when the last time we heard a 'church' denouncing a Grimm fairy tale? Such a shame...but hope is out there. I have 'heard' of pastors (by whatever title) who have actually used the tales as points to discuss that which is good.

yea when the first books came out churches were having cows because it was so popular with children and the books like you said deal with witchcraft. I think that is so stupid. While watching tv I see many horrors on the news and never have I heard it was because of harry potter. People that are against Harry potter for the reason it deals with magic needs to find another more useful cause to believe in and leave the harry potter books alone

The overriding message of the Harry Potter books is love, family and friendship. The bible has incest, murder, betrayal and is used to justify hate and bigotry. It's also hugely inconsistant. If any book can be called evil I'd have to throw my vote in for the bible over Harry Potter.
the catholic church defends pedophiles and the other branches use poor people's money to ride around in limousines and houses many of their parisheners won't ever afford. where do they get off saying what's evil?? people will always be stupid enough to give them thier hard earned money. they should leave everyone else alone.

Vin

One more hypocriscy is the catholic church recgonizes white magic. I don't know about the others.

I'm not into Harry Potter. It is fantasy, but it teaches witchcraft. It's not a big deal to me though, even though me or kids do not watch it. There are much more evil things going on in the world than Harry Potter movies

I have this problem with my mom. I'm a Christian, I go to church, I read the Bible, but I love the HP books. Sometimes, I think churches are afraid that people will see witchcraft as a great thing and possibly start practicing, especially the children that these books are written for. I think churches need to realize that this is make-believe and is unlikely to start a wave of witchcraft.

I think that churches just try to find ways to ban everything that they can't control. The book is about a boy and his enemy. The magic part is just fluff. If these churches would read the books, they would see how it is really a story about a boy growing up to face challenges. It is kind of like life. They need to get one, by the way. They must have nothing better to do.

The church thinks everything is evil...just make your own opinions. I think there's nothing wrong with Harry Potter and I'm tired of dumb church folk saying it is.

Bible thumping morons from last century. They'd probably burn the author at the stake if they had a chance. These people think everything's evil. Ever see 'the waterboy'? It's people like his mom in that movie... HARRY POTTER IS THE DEBIL BOBBY!

It's a brilliant book, no one has the right to deprive Harry Potter from children!

i think that if you do not actually believe that those things are real and that they will not actually happen then it is okay for you to read the books and watch the movies. i also think that if you don't go around trying to do the things that harry potter does then it's okay.
