Our attic fan stopped working. It could be something simple or it could be something worth the call of an electrician.

Is there anything simple I can check before calling in an electrician?

Is an electrician who you call or is there someone else?

Thanks

Check circuit breaker to see if it is tripped. Check thermostat if it has one. If thermostat equipped work temperature setting over full range a few times. Thermostat might be equipped with fuse if so check it.

If not simple fixes help call an electrician. Yes electricians are the ones you need to call.

it all depends on the type of fan that you have ,if it has a belt,it might be broken if it has a thermostat set it at a higher setting, check your circuit breaker or fuse.the motor probably went depending on how old the fan is,don't push it with your hand you could get hurt.if all else fails call an electrician.

Can you verify there is power to the fan?
Does the motor hum?

Did you try to give it a push to start it?

If it hums and seems to try to turn, the bearings are gummed up. Clean them by blowing lots of WD40 on them, then follow with some spray on white grease, or lithium grease.

Power, no hum?

Replace the motor or the fan.

If you are not comfortable troubleshooting it yourself you can call either an electrician or an HVAC tech. Either should be able to fix/replace it for you.

If you want to replace it yourself most home centers have them for about $50.

It might just be the belt broke
when was the last time you replaced it?
