I am trying to create a presentation that my students have a drop down box to select an answer, rather that have to type out the answer.

Powerpoint is a presentation manager. You need a different type of application.

I guess you want to create a quiz in your PPT, you can put quiz into presentation directly in PowerPoint, but it's rather complicated.

so it suggests that you employ quiz maker to create your quiz. There are many such software out there. most of them are easy to use, and you can make the quiz effortlessly with them.
