I read a question about how people feel about gay marriage and when they say "I don't care about that issue" and there were more answers made by gay people who stated they didn't care about gay marriage. One answer stated that her gay brother was against gay marriage all together and the name "marriage" is wrongly used because it involves gays.

Having gay marriage/civil unions voted away from you, is not just about not being able to get married, it's about having your rights, your fundamental rights taken from you! Voted away from you to dehumanize you and to show the gay community they have NO place in society.

This is wrong! Un-American! And plain cruel!

And, there are gay people who don't care!!?? To those who, reply to that.

Will the gay community ever see somebody like Martin Luther King who will take a stand as loudly as he did and garner media attention as he did? Where are they? I read about them in Out and the Advocate, but, where is that one advocate who leads?

Do you think the Gay Community would be open to a heterosexual female as their Gay Martin Luther King? I could say, I'm in drag! No, seriously. A Gay man, or gay woman. They understand the emotionality of this issue more so that I ever could.

I can't beleive some gay people don't care about the issue of gay marriage because it's not just about gay marriage, it's about basic civil rights that were taken at the nads of people who wanted to show me "my place in society."

These bans strictly enforce this intolerance and when the government starts dictating what you can, and cannot do, that it becomes dangerous. Extremely dangerous.

People allow discrimination against gays to take place because homophobia is seen not only in the lower levels of society, but, to the very top aka, the Executive Branch in the Oval Office and Congress.

These gay people who "don't care" - this is not un-common within groups who have done nothing to help further their groups minority. Martin Luther King discussed this in his "Letters from Birmingham Jail". There are always cowards in every group. The do-nothing's who then reap the rewards of hard working individuals who fought for their rights and freedoms and bank off that sweat, blood, and tears.

I am fighting for gay rights and have done so for a long time.

Or gay people that make jokes and laugh at the idea that somebody is defending their rights to live in a free soceity.

God Bless those that do care about gay rights, because from reading the comments here made by gay people, gay people would placed on island somewherev and left to die. LOL! Nothing would ever be progressed, attained, or made possible.

Hmmm.... Sounds like you have a dream. Perhaps you could try? Be the person you want to see in the world, then they will be in the world =)

A lot of us try to do the right thing, but it's more difficult today than ever to stand out above all of the other things going on in the media. Ensure that we all value those who are trying, though there may never be any one person as memorable as Dr. King. In fact, I'd support the opposite--no one remembering a particular person because it was an effort of many good people.

I care, but I'd like to speak on behalf of some of those who don't. Gay people CAN get married and there's nothing the law can do about it. Churches from most denominations will perform the ceremony, which is all that matters at the heart of the process. The state may not recognize it, but... the state is silly. And - I agree - un-American. And un-Christian. And... I'm not sure about other religions, so I'll stop there and let someone else answer.

Thanks for such an inspirational question. I hope you get inspirational answers in return.

Well, first someone has to able to organise, fire up an entire community AND straight people to vote together, make their voices heard together... and those people have to care, too. Preaching to the choir would be sort of useless. Someone like Cheney's daughter coming forward, perhaps. I honestly believe in the case of sme-sex rights, there would have to be someone already within reach of power, influence. Martin Luther King's voice was for those who couldn't otherwise be heard. I think there are a LOT of gays with enough money, power to speak out, but don't want to. Your voics could already be heard, theoretically. I really think you need someone from the mainstream power ranks. It will happen. You've never been denied the vote, after all, or sharing of public spaces with others.... why don't YOU run for government? Make yourself part of the political machine. YOU could be the MLK for gay rights, if you wanted.

Our community already got and lost its Martin Luther King . His name was Harvey Milk . Everyone should see the film about him . The times of Harvey Milk . There is a school in NY named for him , and a political club in SF ca . named for him . Sylvia Rivera should also be remembered by all gay people . Dont forget Marsha P Johnson . And Harry Hay .

MLK stood up when one group of people were treated differently under the law. Today there is no difference the way any group is treated under the law. We all do have the same and equal rights.

Neither one of us can marry someone of the same sex. Both of us can marry someone of the other gender. You are not prevented to marry just because of your sexual choice.

To say we're treated differently is like saying a poor person has the right to collect welfare while the rich person doesn't. To make things equal, everyone should collect welfare.

The only thing un-American is giving out gay rights itself. As you know America was founded on the language of English and the morals of Christianity and today it is a mostly Christian nation still. The point here is going against morals wether it be in the bible or not is wrong. Why should a gay person have the same rights as a man and woman who can procreate!?

Theres already one state for all this stuff because liberals like to legalize and give rights to everybody and everything. Wanna know something about the goold ol' USA? Oyr country is NEVER supposed to change from its written documents, we are not supposed to give rights or make people happy because they are a miniority, to change the way our entire country works, to raise taxes to make one group happy.

Wealready have things printed in spanish with spanish instructions because of the dangerously high levels of illegal aliens that get more benifits than a legal citizen why should we do the same for gays? You have to realize one thing, our country is NOT going to give in, some other country will but it wont be the USA. Just go to wherever that country is.

Im not going to pay more taxes to make YOU happy.

Furthermore marriage is a sacred tradition of 1 man and 1 woman, it always will be and it will never change. Not just as a religious thing but as a tradition.

It would be un-American and plain cruel to the entire USA to give out rights to every ehiny little group, we'd pay more taxes, we wouldnt be able to buy homes, we could barerly afford food if we gave every group rights due to the already insane taxes out here. Im not paying anymore than that!

A note to the user above me. There are alot of gay politicians but there is a guy who thrives on showing the USA who they are for their hypocricy so everyone pretty much knows. And guess what, those politicians are trying to ruin his life he even recieves violence. something 4 devil.
