i am just curious, but hCG naturally present in women? I know it is a hormone
I know a woman has very high hCG levels when she is pregnant, but i am curious if it is always there and is just heightened during pregnancy or if it is a hormone generated from being pregnant

A non pregnant woman might have 0 - 0.5 mIU of the HCG hormone, that is such a tiny amount that it wouldn't show up on a pregnancy test.
The HCG hormone start to increase in volume after 6 - 10 days after conceiving, when the placenta starts to form, that is what increases the HCG hormone.
When your pregnant the hormone start to double or triple every 48 hours.
So I would say it is just heightened during pregnancy.

Hcg is created by the developing zygote - that is why even very early in pregnancy some tests don't detect the Hcg.

By the time the egg reaches the uterus (about 10 days after ovulation) at the time of implantation the Hcg level can rise any where from 10 to 1500!! Then it doubles every about every 2 days...

A woman who is NOT pregnant will have an Hcg level 0.
