Not all USB 2.0 is Hi-Speed.

USB 2.0 standard Full Speed devices are the the same speed as USB 1.1 standard devices.

The device will work, it will just take longer to transfer data. Full Speed goes up to 1.5 MB per second. Hi-Speed goes up to 60 MB per second.

When you buy a USB 2.0 device make sure it says USB 2.0 Hi-Speed. Even then that 60 MB per second is theoretical. 10 to 20 MB per second is more typical and some devices are even lower.

Your device will be connected to a USB 2.0 if your computer has a 2.0 usb port. A 2.0 USB port has around 480 mb/s of transfer speed rather a 1.0 or 1.2... which has around 12mb/s transfer speed. You might have an older computer which may not have usb 2.0 ports. Try putting your usb device in other ports in your computer to see if you have a 2.0 port. If your computer is atleat 6 years old, you probably don't have it. If you don't it won't really effect you besides slower transfer speeds. Anyways, hope you get a newer computer with a 2.0 usb port. SOMETIMES THE COMPUTER OS MIGHT CONFLICTING WITH SOMETHING OR HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE USB PORT THAT IT SHOWS UP THAT IT IS NOT A 2.0. Anyways, if it is a 2.0, then continue using it as you would, it really shouldn't be a major factor in messing up your work or transfer speed.

It just means that it will transfer files/data faster if the ports were USB 2.0 (yours are likely USB 1.1).

You can get such ports installed by buying a USB 2.0 card at your local computer store or online. They cost about 15 bucks.

In response to your change, there are two possibilities: One is that your device is only USB 1.1. Two is that the proper USB 2.0 drivers are not installed for your ports.

On some PCs you will find that the front USB ports are only USB 1.1 - try using a USB port on the rear of your computer :)
