Make sure the drivers for your sound card are there. In Win 98-XP right click "My Computer" select properties. Select device manager. Your sound card will probably show up as a yellow question mark. Double click the question mark (there might be more than one if you've just reformatted) and tell it to update the driver.
You might have to go to the website of whoever manufactured your sound card/device to get the correct driver for your system.

You need drivers :O) before you throw your speakers away stop! it is not the speakers fault and i'm sure its 100% working... All you need to do is to download the driver of your sound card, if you dont have a sound card chances are you are using an onboard soundcard.. To install this driver you have to go to the webpage of your sound card (if indeed you are have a sound card ) if you dont have a sound card go to your mother board maker and download the audio drivers there... if you need more help email me at admin@patrickmagpantay.com

You probably need to update your soundcard drivers.
Go to the manufacturer's website and there should be a section to download drivers. If it was a commercial PC (like a dell) they should have a page in support where you can download all of the drivers for your machine.

I suspect the drivers are not installed. Go to the info that came from the speaker maker OR the speaker maker web site, download driver and install them.

Let me guess, you used Vista, right?
Yeah, it's probably a driver issue. You could have the sound turned down on your volume control (icon) without realizing it.
