How can I connect my PowerMac G3 to internet on my laptop via Crossover Cable?

Laptop is running via wireless router, but I did this before and it worked perfectly. Now it wont run. I'm using a crossover cable, but now either i get no internet on either or just internet on the laptop.

You need to assign static IP addresses on both units because the router is not able to assign IP addresses once it is unplugged.

An alternative is to turn on "obtain ip address automatically" on MAC and plug it into the router wired LAN port w. a straight CAT5 cable.
