Im looking for women that have done it and do you recommend it? My son was an emergency c section because he and I both had very elevated heart rates and he was in distress, The doctor didn't know why so she did the section to be safe. Turned out I had a severely overactive thyroid (Grave's disease)that was undiagnosed, probably why my and my son's heart rates were so elevated. Labor was progressing just fine though. I labored at home for as long as I could before I even went to the hospital. I didn't find the c section to be that bad, I recovered nicely from it but now I am 34 years old and Im afraid of the complications that could arise from the c section. I am an RN in an ICU and I see every surgery complication that could happen. We rarely get an OB patient but it does happen. I think Im just looking for some comfort because I really want to do it and would like to hear some success stories.

My first baby was emergency c-section, my second was a vbac. Based on all of the research I did during my second pregnancy, the risks of a vbac increased primarily when labor was induced. My first was a section due to decreased heart rate in my baby. I knew immediately when I found out I was pregnant with #2 that I wanted to try a vbac. My vbac was realtively uneventful. Very normal delivery, and a much easier recovery. The biggest difference between a vbac and a normal delivery is that the hospital staff had to put the epidural tube (?) in as soon as I got to the hospital in case we ended up with another section. Baby #3 was a scheduled c-section for medical reasons, and now Baby #4 I'm looking for a doctor who will let me VBA2C. (They are about impossible to find). Good Luck! I definately think you should attempt the vbac! It was an awesome experience! If you do not have a successful vbac, remember you still achieved the ultimate goal, a beautiful little angel!!!

You can get on the ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network) Yahoo!Group...I have found much support on everything from C-section recovery to VBAC and HBAC support...

http://www.ican-online.org/

I too, am planning a homebirth after cesarean (HBAC)...even though I am not pregnant yet...Going to TTC this fall.

I would say plan for a VBAC, do all that you can to avoid a cesarean...you may still end up a repeat c-section, but at least you did all you could to ensure yours and your babies safety...Vaginal delivery is safest all around, excpet in exteremly rare cases of life and death.

Some good books to look into are:
Obstetric Myth Versus Research Reality by Henci Goer
The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth by Henci Goer
&
The VBAC Companion by Diana Korte

I am not sure where you are located but where I live there is a great birth resource center called BlossomBirth in Palo Alto, CA. They actually put on meetings that cover VBAC, natural birth and days where you can go and meet local doulas and midwives...You might see if your area has something similar...

I have been studying natural birth, in preparation for my own HBAC, as well as to become a doula...If you have any specific questions feel free to e-mail me.

It is always better if you can deliver naturally for you and the baby - the passage through the canal eliminates fluids from the baby faster that they will be able to do later and it helps with their ligament stretching. The process of healing from any major surgery is also worse as you get older - if you can safely deliver naturally please do for both your sakes. Good Luck!

Well the biggest obstacle will be finding a doctor who will allow you to have a VBAC. None of them that I have gone to have even allowed it, this is in FL and GA.
