Yeah you can uninstall it. I uninstalled mine recently....but wished I hadn't because it's top of the line. But hey whatever ya want to do. It won't ruin your computer though. Not sure why you'd switch. You sure it needs renewed? Maybe updated to newer definitions, updates, etc..? Either way it won't hurt your computer to uninstall it.

Symantects product IMHO is a resource HOG! It also disables a ton of stuff in the operating system and takes over for it. Then there is the cost factor a residual fee every year. (uninstall it now there are like 3 things you have to unistall to [surprised?]) I download tons of stuff from the internet including snag'n on stuff like BitComet and Lime Wire and I have 0% trouble even when a virus is encountered. All I use and have installed for tons of "home" user clients is AVG Free edition. Can be found and downloaded @ http://free.grisoft.com great piece of software and updates itself and all. It will keep your machine vermin free guaranteed. Of course you will get those Symantec / McAfee fans chiming in. (Ford is better! No Chevy is better!) Natch. But trust me the above is all you need as long as you keep your machine updated thruogh Microsoft for critical updates. Hope this helps...Nate

While there is never a guarantee on success, I highly recommend that you go to www.symantec.com and search for the removal tool. It will remove the program properly and you should not have a corrupted system or leftover surprises afterward.

I wold not install anything offered free by any service provider, since you may eventually change providers and run into problems. I recommend that you go get PC tools free Anti virus and Firewall for your system.

Yes, you can uninstall Norton but it is a program that consists of firewall, anti virus (and a few other odds and ends) are you 100% sure that your ISP is going to provide both firewall and antivirus... or will they just scan your mail for virus?

It won't ruin it but remember... You get what you pay for. Most security provided by providers are spam & pop-up blockers. You need something on your computer to scan your hardware for virus infection, not just something to protect you while you are on the internet. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

Yes you can uninstall norton without hurting the computer.

Once you have fully uninstalled and restarted, LiveUpdate will be gone as well.

Yes - get instructions on how to do it off their site though.

For a free one, look at AVG from Grisoft.
