I've been called that before (Black and Cuban)...at first I didn't get it...then once I did explained to the guy (co-worker) that in many circles that term is considered a racist remark for people of Cuban decent...He apologized immediately...and I accepted.

i don't get called desi very often, as i's mixed, but when i do it's not that much of an insult. and none of my none-mixed cousins get offended either. it's almost a running joke between us, to call ourselves desi kids. i know a girl who's mixed like me and we like to joke about being half-desi.

I don't react. because I'm Desi and am proud of it. yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't consider it a racist remark. But I sincerely feel Pakistanis should not be called 'Desi'.

Well, the term refers to people or things of South Asian origin, and since I'm not South Asian, I wouldn't react. However, for the people who ARE South Asian, I'm not sure.
