I just recently started getting the shot and was wondering why they always give me a pregnancy test. I am not pregnant, just wondering what would happen.

The depo shot could seriously mess up a fetus or even kill it. They have to make sure you aren't pregnant so they don't hurt an unborn baby. Also- if you ever do plan on having kids, they recommend getting off depo for a year before concieving. It is a nasty shot but works well...

Very harmful, like the first answerer said.

Unexpected Pregnancies

To ensure that DEPO-PROVERA Contraceptive Injection is not administered inadvertently to a pregnant woman, the first injection must be given ONLY during the first 5 days of a normal menstrual period; ONLY within the first 5-days postpartum if not breast-feeding, and if exclusively breast-feeding, ONLY at the sixth postpartum week (see DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION ).

Neonates from unexpected pregnancies that occur 1 to 2 months after injection of DEPO-PROVERA Contraceptive Injection may be at an increased risk of low birth weight, which, in turn, is associated with an increased risk of neonatal death. The attributable risk is low because such pregnancies are uncommon. 9,10

Definitely not anything well thats for certain!! But no person might provide you the shot any manner. They in general make you experiment earlier than providing you with the shot and having a massive ancient stomach might be a tall inform signal. lol
