because if you watched television about 10 years ago then you'd know that when all the fast food places like mcdonalds and burger king were popular then they advertised a lot of fatty foods. now if you sit down to watch television all you see is expensive, but good health food and diet pills. it was all a set up to make people gorge theirselves with fatty foods just so people could get rich off of diet food and diet pills to make them skinny again. the goverment screws everybody expecially if it has to do with money. and you tell me what obese person doesn't buy diet pills or diet foods?

I really don't know! I have been thinking about this too and I know it has something to do with genes, but jeese! Maybe it's because of all the new technology like, the Internet (I know it came out in 1994 and is really "new",but is still has had a major effect on the American life). You could survive for months by sitting @ your computer and ordering food, blankets, or anything off of the Internet! Just sitting around definitely causes obesity. I am not saying Internet is to blame, but I think all the new luxury and all this technology has had a factor in it. =D

Television, video games and computers...people do not get the exercise that they did before these wonderful inventions. Plus, lots of food is being eaten on the run or quickly made from boxes. Lots of added fat and calories that the body, when at rest in front of TV, computer or vid games, does not need. Americans AND other countries, need to exercise more...like me. I need to get away from this computer and get outside into the garden, mow the lawn, something. But it's 98 degrees and 100 percent humidity, so today I think I'll just stay inside. Maybe tonight I'll go for a walk. LOL.

it is an emotional thing, if you have never been in that situation then you have no way of understanding, if they had it all together then I'm sure that people would not allow themselves to become that way, there is also way too much depression in America, but just like we are all different in the way we act, we are different in the way we react, so some people eat a lot, some don't eat enough, and some are just lazy, but they are all obese, so until we learn how to get rid of the depression in America, we will always have obese people

I believe when stores and community closed at 530pm, and nothing was opened, family life was a priory . As a nation we thrived on family. We have turned our backs on personal relationships in the advent of commercialism! Close the darn malls at 530pm-----NO NIGHT SHIFT. NO 7 elevens, no groceries at gas stations, no gas after 530pm. Go home, relax, relate, live. We are paying for what we gave up, we have greedy consummerism in its place, we have lost our souls. Yet the people wonder why they are fat, and don't even know they are lonesome and unfullfilled, so they stuff the whole full of goodies------businesses understand this, play to the peasants lusty appetites, and we think we are so with it to have all our stuff, cars, toys, day cares, yet look at all of us. Yea-------its just bad eating right? Our nation needs rehab! Slow down, be real again, talk to each other, and fast, live simple again, and reconnect to God and your neighbor. This junky, consumer driven society is no good, and our schools are crying out as loudly as our youth killings. We have grown cold.

I read somewhere that fast food restaurants in America produce enough food everyday to equate to like 3800 calories for each adult in America, a sensible diet is 2000 calories....marketing...just like booze and pills ....you deserve a break today so, have a drink, pop a pill and eat a big mac...

lack of self respect & genetics, I think. I could see why some people say that when you have more money, you can buy more food & be more lazy. But, there are A lot of poor, overweight people. We want to say homosexualality & everything else is genetic.

People turn to food to fill a void within themselves--not that it helps but it makes them feel better for that moment. Just like some people turn to drugs to feel better. It's an emotional thang lol

lack of movement due to luxuries
in other countries they walk everywhere
there are not corner stores EVERYWHERE
their meals consist of smaller portions over a longer length of time
Americans (I'm American) eat in an average of 10 minutes and LARGER potions than the rest of the world, that makes it hard for us to register that we are full before we have already engorged ourselves
the American diet consists of refined foods..as opposed to other diets that are more varied -fruits veggies and LEAN meats

Super sized greasy fast food

You have to walk a mile to burn of a McD supersize fries

If you walked all your fat food, you wouldn't have time to be here
