probably a lot, my veterinary costs are pretty low, and have you ever had the opportunity to compare the cost of the same medicine prescribed for an animal that is prescribed for a human? Way cheaper, about half the cost. So throw Pharmaceuticals in there with the HMOs.
I agree with John, I think what we really need is Insurance reform not socialized medicine.

I think you're confused. The HMOs, insurance companies, and drug companies WANT the government to spend more money on the corrupt system. The CEOs want everyone covered even if they can't afford it or don't need it.
Yeah, people need good quality healthcare, but the current proposals are just more free pork for the existing industry that has little incentive to cure its patients. When the bills are guaranteed and backed by the government, profits and taxes will go up together to new unseen levels!

Probably not at all.
HMOs lobbying politicians is not the primary cause of insurance rates going up. Instead, medical malpractice lawsuits that are overly outrageous is a more direct factor. Every time an insurance company has to shell out a large settlement they raise the rates on all doctors, including any small-town/local doctors that might still exist. They have to pay, because they cannot practice without malpractice liability coverage. That cost gets passed directly to the government (who takes their cut from your taxes) and you (which you see as increased insurance rates).

Many things would be cheaper if businesses would simply be honest and follow the rules rather than paying politicians millions to help them go avoid the rules.

None. Lobbying money usually is a good return on your investment because the government tends to protect your interests in exchange for that money.

He he - good point. In the grand scheme probably not much - but the idea that they are doing it at all sticks in my craw.
