I wish he would run as President in '08, but his family is afraid he might get assassinated because he is black. He would have my vote if he did run. He is an Vietnam veteran and was a top general, he is African-American, which would settle the race problem, he has brains, he is a moderate Republican, and has shown his willingness to be neutral, and he advised Bush not to invade Iraq and to concentrate defeating the real terrorists in Afghanistan, but Bush ignored him, and look where we are now. One top military leader said the War on Terror would have been successful had we taken Powell's advice.

YES He would have made a great President... the fact is he resigned over disgust with the Bush administration!

I also agree that Colin Powell would make a good president. He has probably learned enough from being played like a chump by Bush to avoid the job like a plague. condeleeza "Go on a shopping trip while New Orleans drowns" Rice and Clarence Thomas shouldn't be in the positions they are in now let alone the presidency. Obama is 2008

I am a moderate Democrat but I agree he would make a good President and would consider voting for him. To the poster that claims Powell was responsible for not going after Saddam the first time, that was George Bush's father's decision to make, not his. A general follows the president's orders, he does not set policy.

Colin Powell would fit right in – He knew full well that the evidence he presented to the UN Security Counsel on WMDs in Iraq was 100% manufactured.

So NO… he would not make a good President.

How odd i was JUST talking about him moments before i logged onto YA- In the past I would have thought he would have made a strong leader and a great president but his creditablity is shot for lying to the UN on Bushes' behalf about the WMD's in Iraq.

Before he got mixed up with the Bush bunch I would have thought General Powell might have made a good president. I don't know about great, but certainly a good one. Now, I don't think so.

NOT TO WORRY
COLIN POWELL is still hiding his face in shame for his part in the lies that got us into Iraq in the first place.
Thats why he isn't anywhere to be found.
Thats why there is no talk of his runnng for the Presidency.
He was on the wrong side then
Said the wrong things
That led to the wrong conclusions
That have cost America over 3600 of our bravest young people

I think he would. He has real leadership experience and is well respected. If it came down to him and Obama or Hillary, Powell would come out on top. I really wish he would run.

There is a good chance I would have voted for him. The only thing I had against him is a report I heard that he supported gun control.

Couldn't tell you if he would have been great, most generals have been mediocre, but I would have liked to have given him the chance.
