only if liberals, not liberalism, but liberals are defeated once and for all...they have screwed up every single thing they have touched and only then, when we can swing the pendulum of common sense back towards the middle again, can we ever hope to return to the spirit and attitude that made this country great. it was once and can be again...we just need to start ignoring these dipshit liberals who hate this country and all it stands for...

Unfortunately I'd have to say no. There's a lot of people who agree with you, but then there's a lot who simply look at this country as EVERYTHING that is wrong with the world. Many of them were not around in the 60's and 70's and the only things they're taught about those times is Vietnam, Watergate, and Racism. Pretty sad indeed.
Today guys like Ward Churchill are the "teachers" who will teach new generations about that time. Can you imagine?
No wonder so many are misinformed about REAL history when someone like Churchill is the one "teaching" it.
America was truly so much more than that. SO MUCH better than what it is today.

I think not, if we don't stop the NAU, or at least try. Bush has now signed an agreement for merging with the EU, which will probably not happen until the NAU is going strong. Of course, this was done in secret too. The link has a lot of info.
I think I'd rather have the hippies back instead of where this country is headed.
I wonder how many members of Congress know about it. We should let them know. Let's flood their switchboards and faxes again.

Now hold on there, pilgrim. All is not lost. Why just last week, the Supreme Court took a giant leap towards JUST that. By virtue of their 5-4 decision, they basically took us back to 1954 and all but wiped Brown v. Board of Education off the books. That's a "start", at least, huh?
MountainDew25, In all seriousness, I, too feel proud and lucky to have been born here. But this is no longer the America that was. It seems that I hear far more references to RED STATE/ BLUE STATE than I hear to UNITED STATES. I once thought that the values and principles that we shared were far more important than our physical and philosophical differences. Though we have always wrestled with these differences, I always thought that even they ADDED to the specialness of being AMERICAN. But the reality is that, as a nation, we are more polarized now than when we were legally required to be. Not just racially, but socially, also. We are down-right mean to each other in the forums of Public Opinion, such as this one, ANSWERS, and others in the "blogosphere" as well as newspaper letters to the editor, and such. We don't share ideas. We attack difference of opinion. We speak in coded language that does nothing but "draw the lines" as to which "side" you're on. No longer is an American allowed to voice dissent. Now he HATES.
Maybe it has ALWAYS been thiis way and we're just finally at an age to see and realize it. But I don't think so. I think we have truly changed.

Some parts of America are improving, for example there is huge economic changes in El Salvador, Guatemala and Costa Rica. Some other parts are getting worst, like Canada for its politics and the United States in their civil liberties. You see, things change all the time, but whether you are from Brazil, the United states or Canada, America will always be the same in one aspect: A land of opportunities ! And there will always be nice things to remember about America !

I grew up in the late 50's and 60's. America started losing it's peaceful nature in the 60's. I remember when everyone looked out for each other and it was safe for kids to go out alone. Even at night. Almost everyone went to church. It was a great time to grow up. I don't really know what happened but I wish my kids could have experienced it. We didn't have much but were happy.

I think that all of us who love America would like to see it restored to it's former glory, but I'm afraid that will never happen. It's like that old saying..."too much water over the bridge now." However, I do believe that if we get a competent president to represent us we can come back to a certain degree. I just hope that this will happen before it is too late.

Not a chance in it going back to the way it was "back when." that's just honesty but if you could encourage ppl to vote and such then we can change the course of history. It just takes ppl getting along... yeah like that's ever gona happen right? Any thing is possible!
