the presidency. He is white, rich and protestant, and not very bright. Is that the face of the Republican Party? Is that all it takes? Oh, I almost forgot. He did his flight training on an obsolete jet that would never see service in Vietnam. He bugged out of going to war. I didn't, nor did the men I fought with who are no longer among the living.

JFK risked his life in WW11(ever read the book?), John Kerry served two tours of duty in Vietnam( Bush served none), and Pelosi is a hard working grandmother. Do you hate grandmothers?

Clinton did not grow up in privilege.
Do you conservative types ever check your so called facts? Bush was a privileged child, not Clinton. He earned where the right to be president. It wasn't handed to him.

Holbrook: Murtha senile? If you were old enough to know what shame was, you would apologize. Conservatives never do. Honesty is not in their nature.

Hmmm ... I don't recall "spoiled rich kid" was the criteria I used when I cast my vote for him.

WOW, nice rant. Let's look at your statement:
Why do Conservatives support the President? Well, a lot of Conservatives, including me, don't agree with some of the things he's done, but there is a thing called patriotism.
He's white. OK, just like every other President we've ever had
He's rich. Is that a disqualifier? If so, what about Kennedy? How about the two mooks the Democrats ran last time around? They ain't rich? How about Al Gore? He ain't rich. Sorry, that dog don't hunt.
He's Protestant? OK, with one exception, so were all of his predecessors.
He's not very bright? His IQ and his grades were higher than the last candidate run against him, who attended the same school. I don't think you should be commenting on someone else's level of intelligence, it displays a certain amount of undeserved arrogance.
Flight training on an obsolete jet? Hmmm. You're right, he should have marched into his commanding officer's billet and demanded to be trained in more modern equipment. If you did serve, you know how far that would get you.
He never saw service in Vietnam? Like his predecessor who evaded the draft and ran off to Europe? Or do you mean like the gentleman from Tennessee who served on the staff of Stars and Stripes Magazine? Of course, he could have done like Kerry and put himself in for honors he neither earned nor deserved.
You say you served, well, I did too. 14 months in the Infantry in the triangle between Hwy 1 & Hwy 13. If I learned anything, it's that you don't denigrate other people's contributions unless you do it accurately.

I didn't vote for W in 2000. I voted for the Libertarian.
However, based on W's handling of the economy after the dot.com bubble bursting, and 9/11, and then his handling of 9/11 by going after the terrorists, he demonstrated good leadership and ability.
What did Kerry ever do to earn my vote? What leadership did he exhibit did he exhibit in his nearly 20 years in the senate? None. What important legislation did he ever write and get passed? None. His sole record of leadership was commanding a swift boat for a few months, 40 years ago! Nor could Kerry take a hard stand on any issue based on core convictions.
The leadership and success Bush provided in his first term, and the lack of leadership and core convictions from Kerry, is why I voted for Bush in 2004.
Oh, and despite not being too bright, Bush still beat his "brilliant" dem opponents twice. Maybe you're selling him a little short on the IQ thing?

Would you support the party that staged a fake attack on the
U.S. Maddox and led us into a war that caused the death of
over 50,000 soldiers. Would you vote for purple heart Kerry
read how he got each. The hero who then protested the war
yet runs for president as member of the same party who
got us into it in the first place. Being a Vietman Vet could
you vote for Bill Clinton who dodged the draft and even
went to Russia to protest the war. Surely the party that gave
us F.D.R. and Harry Truman could find some better canidates that these. Yes I voted for Bush what other choice
did I have? As of right now I doubt I will even vote this next
time I don't see anyone running I could vote for.

This is an answer that answers your great question, and doesn't take sides. It's simple: Conservatives voted for Bush because he was an obvious strong conservative. They wanted a President with opinions that closely resembled their own. The same holds true for liberals.
If Bush was a staunch liberal, regardless of his background, you must likely would have voted for him.
It all breaks down to your emotions!
Regardless of the facts, when it comes to a decision, your emotions, and not intellect make the ultimate decision.

I do not support everything the President does...but the same question could be purposed to Liberals...
Bill Clinton: Never Served...took many, many deferments...protested the US in Europe..Rich and White
Hilary Clinton: Never served, as First Lady showed an out right hatred for the Military...Rich and White
Nancy Pelosi: Never Served...Rich and White
Harry Reid: Never Served...Rich and White
Obama: Never Served...Bi-Racial...grew up with White, Rich Family...
John Edwards: Never Served...White and Very Rich...
Al Gore: "Combat" Correspondent...got out of the Army early to be a Chaplin...quit Chaplin School...White and Rich...getting richer off of people's fears...
John Kerry: Recieved three Purple Hearts for sctatches...got out of Navy...Lied to Congress...Protested the war...White and very, very rich...
I could go on, but why?
Only people who they bring up who served are Murtha who has gone senile and Max Cleland who blew himself up on accident in Viet Nam...
I don't think the Conservatives are the only ones supporting the type of person you talk about...

I assume you are talking about the president. It's a simple battle of culture and ideology, as this nation is clearly divided into blue and red states, and Bush represents a far right dose of the "red" which the republicans needed after 2 terms of far left "blue" in the Clinton administration. If you sit down and discuss Bush's mistakes 1 by 1, any conservative will acknowledge he is a little extreme, but they will still stand up and defend him because he represents a side of America that is trying to reimpose their cultural dominance (since they really run the show here anyways).

I voted for President Bush twice, and support him now, I don't always agree with him but I do admire him.
Who were the Dem. Candidates? Al Gore (wealthy) John Kerry (gigolo & lives off of rich widows), oh, and let's not start with the "war hero" stuff, the man was barely in Vietnam, poor baby got a scratch. Now we have Hillary (doormat), Edwards (ambulance chasing attorney who made his millions from the misery of others), Obama (man of mixed heritage, but seems to think he's all African American). Personally, I think politicians are all misfits, but I like mine better than yours!!!! Oh, congrats on "not bugging out", neither did my husband (who also served in Nam--for a year...not a few months!) and my father who was a Purple Heart Receiptant, WWII (wounded on Iwoa Jima).
Sorry, I just can't resist one of your little additions, does my being a Grandmother qualify me to be "Speaker of the House"? Your qualifications for office are really a riot!!!! Thanks for the laugh.

I can tell you are a Veteran; frustrated, angry, possibly isolated and in this case perhaps a bit jealous. You should turn your energy toward helping President Bush realize that his legacy should be as the Commander in Chief who finally took care of his young soldiers off the battlefield.

Because he agrees with us on the issues. And we don't discriminate against people based on their race, religion, and how much money they have. Unlike some people, apparently.
Also, he's not dumb. And though I'd prefer someone who served in the military, it's not like any of the leading candidates for the Democratic nomination did.

Thank you for your military service.
The two main reasons this man was elected is that he pandered to the moral majority and used a lot of mud slinging. It has only been since the last federal elections that the Republicans (having a very poor showing) have started backing off of him.
