Oh goody, another let's-dump-on-Barry thread. I feel sad if we don't get at least two, three of these every day. And they're always so fresh, original, interesting!

'scuze me whilst I barf.

Please TRY to ADD something to the topic (requires creativity and critical thinking, so I realize this is quite difficult for most). This is beyond beating a dead horse; it's dry-roasting the skeleton.

Whether we like it or not is irrelevant. Barry Bonds is sure going to break Hank Aaron's record. Hank chew on that!

The case could be built to prove that he took some form of steroids or another. The fact remains that officially that case has not been made. And it might never be made.

Mlb set up the George Mitchell panel to pacify fans. That objective has been accomoplished. Everyone is keeping quiet for time to take care of the issues. Otherwise what justification would mlb have to prosecute any player when it did not set any guide lines for player behavior in this area from time.

During the run to break Roger Maris's 61 single season homerun record, it was mentioned briefly that Mark Mcguire was taking some drug and they found that the drug was not a banned substance at the time. Yet Mark Mcguire was denied induction into baseball hall of fame when his name came up the last time due to the steroid stigma.

Baseball from time has always had problems with 'giddy up and go' substances and that is why players chew tobacco in the dugout. So when guidance is absent especially in this day and age people are sure going to try anything to get their adrenalin pumping at a greater rate if they know that they are not breaking the law.

I would suggest we close the chapter on what might have happened and set stricter rules and move on. Otherwise it is only the small guys (players) that are and have suffered so far. Mlb has to my recollection been left out while the players suffer the consequencies of the drug abuse.

I don't want to see him break the record, although he definitely will. I also believe Bonds took steroids. His physical appreance is so drastically different from the beginning of his career until now. I think the fact that Hank Aaron has publicly stated that he wants no part of Bonds breaking his record says a lot. The only good thing is that I think the record Bonds will have will be short lived. A-Rod will break it in the next decade.

Do I think he took steroids, yes. He admitted to 'unknowingly' being given 'cream' and 'the clear' which were later identified.

When the story in the cronicle leaked, he tried to hush it, not with a libel case (the case of printing something untrue), but to publishing grand jury testimony.

If someone wanted to publish that you killed a child, would you get the law to say "shh, that was supposed to be private" if you were innocent.

As for bonds breaking the record, he will not.
Yes, he will surpass 756 home runs, but only the one-dimensional looking # is really nothing focusing on achievement.

During Bonds career, it was 22% easier to hit a home run than it was in Aaron's day.
We talk about present value so rarely in baseball, but Aaron's achievement of 755 home runs in his era is the equivilent of 918 home runs in Bonds time.

So, while Bonds passes the #, he does not pass the achievement. (by the way, the present value of Ruth's home runs are 1912)

I think people ought to stop obsessing about 756 and look at the relative achievement.

I think he took steroids. Hank Aaron will always be the homerun king in my book

i believe he took some sort of performance enhacing drug, illegal in MLB, most likely Human Growth Hormore (or HGH)

for the nay-sayers out there, the sizeable growth to bonds head and feet suggest he took HGH, and the continued hush-hush of Balco CEO on the matter does not help bonds' case either

and no, i do not want barry to break the record, even tho he will do it. i believe records are meant to be broken, thats why they are records. but all that i hope is that he holds it for as short as possible, and someone who hasnt taken illegal substances (cough AROD cough) can break the record, giving it back to someone deserving of the title

I want him to smash it!

I don't really care that he may or may not have taken steroids.

Pitching was down home runs were up in bonds' time... there was a lack of dominate lefties.

its is due to expansion that he has so many home runs.. Hank did it during expansion too..
