there are several reason a speedometer will stop working #1 a failure of the electronic speed sensor, which normally will trigger the engine check light and also the shift position light to come on(the shift position light on the dash will flash),#2the speed pulsar in the speedometer itself, which will require a new speedometer, this can also trigger the engine check light to come on,all providing this is a 1990 or newer Honda accord.

Year of vehicle would be helpful.

The older models used a speedometer cable that was simply a cable that connected the transmission to the gauges. (I believe the switch over from cable to electrical transmission occurred in the early 90s)

Newer models use a speed sensor and information is electronically transmitted to the gauges.

So the most likely problem is either the speedometer cable is broken, or your speed sensor has stopped working (transmitting information).

It sounds like your cable is broke. It goes from the backside of your Speedometer, and carries over to your transmission.
Just stop in at Pep Boys or simular shop, and they can fix it up.

its either the speed sensor that's gone bad in it or the speedometer head has gone bad on it,when they go out it stops working all together, the cure is to replace the speedometer head on it,and possibly the speed sensor also, good luck hope this helps.
