I have a 1994 nissan sentra with a ga16det enigne and I have started modifying it. so far I have only put in a cold air intake, then I switched the gasket on the valve cover, and ever since then, when I rev high in 4th gear to shift into fifth, smoke comes out of the exhaust, which is kind of grayish blueish not too black..

Gray/blue smoke generally means you are burning oil. Chances are you have damaged the oil rings on the pistons by abusing the engine.

hi Is the coolant in choose of usual topping up & is the vehicle possibly working somewhat tough? if so then it may desire to be the pinnacle gasket, or considered one of them no rely if this is a V configured engine (V6, V8, etc...) Is it working somewhat tough with a sickly candy smelling exhaust? if so then this is a leak into the intake someplace. Does the exhaust scent like gasoline? could desire to be over fuelling. If this is a miles better engine then possibility is its isn't something greater suitable than condensation. Combustion can produce water vapour & greater suitable thirstier engines will produce greater suitable than the common. I had a Ford Cougar 2.5 V6 24 valve & a Volvo 960 3.0 24 valve & there became continuously a mist coming from the exhaust at idle yet they have been the two working completely. in spite of the undeniable fact that, if uncertain, verify it out. very ultimate regards Geordie

If it is greyish blue then it is oil burning. I can't explain why it would be coming out of the exhaust if all you did was replace the valve cover gasket. Are you sure it's accually coming out of the tail pipe and not just coming from behind the car.

Blueish smoke is burned oil, very white would be coolant turned to stream. Might be you head gasket leaking under pressure.

blue-grey smoke indicates oil in the combustion chamber, since you are experiencing it at high rpm, you likely have oil blow-by at the piston rings. which indicates the need for rebuild, you could get away with only replacing rings and crank bearings, but if you are willing to pull the engine, and have admittedly been "racing and abusing" this car, get the rebuild

Sounds like a fuel problem...not an oil one or gasket prob. Mixture probs needs re-setting.

could be either worn piston rings, or valve guide seals
