i have an Amd Athlon x2 3800+, 1gb ram, geforce6100 shared memory with ram which leaves 894mb....my computer should be able to handle it?

If the video card you described is onboard, it will not run as well as a separate card with its own dedicated memory. I would recommend buying a card with 256-512 onboard memory and letting your pc have the full gig. Also, if you are trying to play online using wireless internet, try running wired. Wireless is known to slow you down.

Whoever told you that computer could handle Half Life 2 has been telling you stories. That video card is not a gaming card by any stretch of the imagination. You need to get a better video card, that will cure your lag problem.

For now try sacrificing a little on the anisotropic filtering or antialiaising without degrading quality too much untill you get some more memory. Make sure you have latest graphics drivers, too
