WHEN the world Ends?! Do you know something you’re not telling us?
Of course all things in this material universe will one day come to an end... but according to scientist we have about 5 billion years before our Sun turns into a Red Giant and wipes out our atmosphere... since we (humans) have that much warning hopefully we will have found a new home by then. I haven't heard any legitimate reports of any space objects heading this way to destroy us either, and don't believe "aliens" would have any interest in us if they existed. So that rules out most of the SiFi-movie versions of our potential destruction...
There's the chance we could destroy it ourselves with nuclear weapons... but who's crazy enough to do that? (who's crazy enough to invent such weapons in the first place, oops! guess that's a possibility). Global warming won't end the world... possibly life as we know it... but the world will continue and adapt, and so will we if we are going to survive it (or hopefully stop it).
Then there are the religious theories of the End of the World... the Christian version talks about Fire al lot- ouch! But there is a great series of events that are to take place before the actual END so it won't be a big surprise.
I have no reason to believe any of these things would happen in my life time, but IF I happened to be alive at the END of the WORLD I would rather be ASLEEP. I can not stand to watch others suffer, nor would I want to be aware of my own demise.
Do you know when this will happen? Please give me a heads up so I can be sure to be comfy under my covers.... Or depending on what would be causing this END and how much warning we have perhaps we should begin building an Arc and loading up?
BTW- If you have access to that Red Button, DO NOT PUSH IT! Thanks- the World appreciates it. PEACE

I know that the world will end, it matters not when, and even if I am asleep I shall awake. As I said on one other question recently I expect to decompose, but I know an excellent composer, and I shall awake after His likeness and be renewed together with the rest of Creation.
I've been close several times, and know that whatever I'll be three sheets to the wind and straight on to morning, no pain can break through those endorphins. Living I die, and dying I live.

enki, my friend, your question implies that the world will end in some great moment, in which we can all say (now) we would rather be asleep or awake. I believe all living things will be long dead before the world ends. Primarily because we care so little for it, use it, abuse it. This planet doesn't exist just for US. The garbage we're feeding into it, & into space will probably implode it, or send it off like a tossed old rock into the cosmos. As for being "asleep"--too many people are as the planet dies a slow death. We'll be long gone when it happens. Who knows? Some other form of life "might" evolve in the debris we've left. THAT'S what I'd rather.

Would it matter since all memory would be deleted in a matter of seconds, in the case of sudden death? or so I would assume.
If the world ends slowly like I believe is happening right now and most of us are not aware of it. because the slowness is evolutionary and will take millions or billions of years. Death is inevitable to everything. Without us there is no world only a planet. A lifeless planet.
Asleep or awake is a moot point. Being awake is the same as being asleep.

Could the world end? If the human species became
extinct then why should that imply that the world ended.
Therefore, the question might be would I rather be
awake or asleep when humanity ends. If I remain
awake I think that humanity couldn't end. The thought
that humanity could end while I am asleep only
lends weight to the supposition that the world is
more than humanity.

Obviously, awake. If I'm going to live during the end of the world, I wanna see it!

Asleep. Seriously. What few friends I have left won't miss me, and what little family I have is way out of state, and couldn't get to me in time (thank goodness! *lol*).
Of course this presumes a sudden, unstoppable end, an extinction level event courtesy of nuclear warfare or a meteor impact. And I have every reason to think it won't be like that. That the world, or at least us humans, will end up dying that "long boring death" like a planetary version of _The English Patient_....
First the toys will go...then civilization....then finally our species will degenerate slowly, sliding backwards into gibbering apehood.
And the only good news out of that one is....I will most likely be *dead* asleep, so to speak, before we lose all the toys. ^_^ I hope so anyway.
I hope this helps....thanks for your time! ^_^
(and yeah, I do what I can do to try to save the world, but I'm just this *guy* you know? It isn't like I can leap over tall buildings in a single bound...)

I would rather be asleep when, as you say, the World is going to end.

I'd want to be awake. In the bible it says that everyone will see the second coming of Jesus. When you think about it, it has to be coming pretty soon because:
1) How can everyone see from different places in the world?
Because of TV and cameras the second coming of Jesus WILL be broadcasted all over the world and everyone will be able to see it.
Who would be asleep to miss something like that?
