This question is for those who work at or have worked at Wal-Mart.
There is a new Wal-Mart opening up in our area and they are taking applications this week. I plan to apply. My questions are: what is typical starting pay? I would really like to hear others opinions on their favorite job at Wal-Mart. I think I would like to work in the baby dept. as a sales associate, should I be that specific on the application or what should I put for position applied for? Any help on the application or interview process would be appreciated. Also, I prefer to work nights--would this shift be difficult to get or easier to get than dayshift?
Thanks in advance!

starting pay depends on your work history over the last 5 years. They start at a base rate, which depends on where you live---then they will add pay depending on your work history, and experience. For example, I started out as a customer service manager. I started at the base pay, and they added work credits because i had worked 4.5 years out of the 5. That has changed recently--they used to go by how long you worked at your last job--now they take all jaobs in 5 years underconsideration. I also got extra pay for already having management experience. I started out at about 10.25 an hour. I left walmart and then went back as a cashier--which would be the same level pay that you would be getting as a sales associate. I started at 8.55 an hour. You also get an evaluation after 90 days and at your 1 year anniversary. Its a flat rate. 40 cents an hour if you meet expectations, and 55 cents if you exceed expectations. So you get 2 raises in your first year there. I don't know if they would put someone in the baby department for nights--we don't have anyone. You would most likely have to work days or evenings for that one. Nights at our store run 10 pm to 7 am--5 nights a week.
You also get 1.00 an hour more for working overnights.
I believe they will ask your preferences. Just ask them in personnel what would be better.

My wife tried to work there but, it seems they only hire phisically or mentally handicapped people so they can take advantage of them. Good luck.

Hmm...working for walmart or sell your soul to the devil. I think you have chosen poorly.
