My boyfriend is 5'7" and has a chest measurement of about 40", with a shoulder span of 21-22". He has a lot of trouble finidng coats that fit in the shoulder and the chest--if the chest fits, the shoulders are too wide and the coat is much too long, and if the shoulders fit the coat is too tight across the lower shoulders. I have been planning to sew him a coat for a while now and would like to know where I can find a pattern easily adjustable around the shoulder and length area, or one specially formatted to fit shorter men. Thank you!

I know what you mean. Nothing looks sillier than a suit jacket where someone has just cut off the bottom to make it shorter. the pockets need to be up at the waistline, not down at the hem of the jacket! Anyway, you'll need to find just the right pattern because I think if you tried to re-grade a narrow shoulder onto a wide chest, the resulting garment would look funny. How about this one, but you could add some crisp box pleats to give him the room he needs around the chest?
