I just dont really understand how could he do that. There was explaination from him. I really want to know the reason, but I will die wondering...

I dont know if I should still be friend with him? But I have deleted his yahoo and msn id from my contact list already.

Most writers use a pen name. Most actors real names are changed to more marketable names? The Internet, is an open book, I don't blame people for creating a fictitious name to protect their indentity. You never met, only chatted, so there was no reason for him to tell you his real name other than the "pen name" If you two talked on the phone, or met in person, that is different. I hope this helped.

People online, lie about a lot of things. But the truth
of the matter is this. If the person had the courage or
heart, to confess themselves in a decent and
courdial manner, before things get to serious. Then
there is still a chance.

Three years is a long time to keep up a lie like that! I don't blame you for checking on people now because if he lied about something as simple as his name for three years, what other lies has he told you?
I can't understand why people have to pretend to be someone or something they are not on the internet. What are they hiding?!!!!!!!!!!

Many people chat online to experience others. Sometimes mixing up fantasy with reality; discretion is probably why your friend didn't disclose his real name. I assume he was concerned that his spouse would find out about his activity. Look at this as a leaning experince; it takes all kinds of people to create this place.........

So, what's the problem. The internet world is the internet world and many, many people choose not to tell the person they are talking to their real name, there are many reasons. Just be happy.

You should still be friends with him. He has every right to lie about the name of him. Its for his own protection. Plus its not a big deal. Its only a name. Now if it was his sex then that would be different.
**something to think about...

Whether his name was Mathew or Josh does it really change how you feel about him>?

What's the question?! That seems to be more of a statement. And I'm not surprised, there are a lot of crazy and strange people on the internet - keeping one's name to oneself is quite prudent!

Oh sweetie we all do it, I'm not actually Jackie, I'm in fact John, a 55 year old contract cleaner from South Yorkshire!
That's the downside to the net, you never know who your communicating with despite what they tell you!
