My dad says that, unlike liberals, many conservatives feel blessed to live in this country and want to give something back to the greatest nation on God's Green Earth. This is why conservatives give more to charity and make up 80% of the armed forces. Liberals are just along for the ride!

Liberals don't give to charity, Why?

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/opinion/298992_givemoney10.html

Liberals just whine and complain and put there hands out!

Your daddy is wrong.

The people who join the military and the people who are conservatives share one thing: Lack of intelligence.

I dispute your claim of conservatives giving more to charity than liberals. You couldn't hope to prove that (and I read that article).

Probably for the same reason that we Liberal Patriots also joined.

Don't forget that the Founding Fathers were so far to the political left in their day that they would make Nancy Pelosi look like a right-wing neo-con by comparison today. The thought that a people could govern themselves without guidance from The Crown was so un-speakably radical in those days that it was passed off by the aristocracy as pure lunacy. And we ALL know what the outcome of THAT skirmish lead to.

Most modern "conservatives" (and a lot of modern "liberals" as well) don't have a CLUE what TRUE liberalism is really all about. Study up on it before you start throwing out baseless accusations.

I would suggest that you learn a bit of independent thinking, not blindly rely upon what "Daddy" has to say. That was fine and dandy when you were learning to walk and tie your shoes but you're allegedly an adult woman now so it's time to cut loose from his belt-loops. You claim to be a college sophomore so it's time to learn to think for yourself.

Your last 2 whinges are not worth addressing.

There is NOTHING in the first article that states the political party affiliation of anyone. Secondly I don't see the relevance of the second article. In the second one they can't even spell guest correctly in identifying the author of the article. I don't be live you have proven a thing. All the people I know both those identifying themselves as liberal and conservative are very generous and do give to charity. Perhaps some feel they cannot afford to give at this time others have become soured by events these days. Still others give but don't lord it all over others or make a big deal out of it or even record the gift for tax purposes. Usually the only way there is any record of charitable contributions is through what is declared on one's tax return. Not everyone chooses to do that.

First article says Army and Navy reserves not meeting their goals and says nothing regarding the political views of the enlistees, so there is no basis for the statement that conservatives are joining the military in HIGH numbers --

Second article does not say "Liberals don't give to charity" it says most Americans give and religious Conservatives give more than liberals. So the statement "Liberals" don't give to charity would be a LIE.

PS Your link on recruiting is from December 2006 - old news -- The Army has missed it's goals for May and June 2007. So all in all you are FOS.

The first link says nothing about the political persuasion of the recruits....
How POLITICAL is the average young male anyway?

The second link was merely an opinion by guest columnist.
And the PI spelled "guest" wrong.

I did ten years USCG.
People enlist for other than patriotic reasons.
Military people are more liberal than you might think.
Just because they perform their duties well does not mean they are Conservative.

And the Military offers OK pay for a young single person maybe right out of high school.
Good Benefits.
30 days Paid leave a YEAR.
Medical/Dental.
Funds for College after military.
That is kinda hard to beat.
For young just out of high school casting about person.
(cmon....what would you rather do? Work at Burger King or on the flight deck of Aircraft Carrier and maybe Port Calls to boot

Air Force iffy.....high tech but might wind up in place where women wear hats with airflaps.

Marine Corps got great looking dress uniform.)
Or just to get out of WHYKICKAMOOCOW
without having to resort to riding the rails.

You are too old to accept your dad's prejudices without question. It is patently absurd to say that liberals don't feel blessed to live in this country. It is their very patriotism that makes them want to boycott the neocon war of aggression.

According to your link, one percent more self-described conservatives do give money to charity. But if you break it down into religious v. secular, religious liberals give just as much. And there might be some question about how much money that is donated to churches actually goes to charity and not to the routine operation of the church.

Also, many liberals prefer to volunteer time and services directly to charities than to simply write a check. Doesn't sound like whining and complaining to me. But your dad's attitude does. At least analyze it before you swallow it whole.

Easy girl you seem angry, nothing better to do for many Americans who can't afford, or are unwilling to buckle up for col ledge. I went to a graduation party yesterday he was going into the marines, I've known him since he was a boy, time can fly by, I will worry about him. You ask your Dad about SNAFU, And by-the-way there aren't any GODS that is conjecture from the minds of males, just ask any woman in Baghdad or anywhere.

Don't be picking on our liberals, one would think you've gone soft on progress. They ain't all bad, some are just great folks. But they really need to get behind the govt at some time, and back off the invective. We'll vote again, they'll have their shot. Me, I'm a half-@ssed liberal, kinda a heavily armed liberal. Did my tour, was a volunteer, not all liberals are passive. All conservatives are not warlike. Some are real jerks. Happens in all clubs. How's it said, We sub-genius need more slack.

Conservative patriots?

What, are you saying that both of them have joined the military?

Conservatives usually just whine like little babies and ask the liberals to go to war for them.

It must be some strange statistical quirk that hardly any of the conservatives in political office today or commenting in the media have served in the military.
