Staying....their whole platform for running for the presidency is based upon the Iraq War.

If the Republican Party wants to recover enough to have a chance at the '08 election they need to come together and demand that President Bush change his course drastically in Iraq. Whether that involves at least partial withdrawal, demanding more from the Iraqi government, or complete withdrawal they need to do something very soon, and most importantly, in concert.

The way it seems to be going now there will only be further fracturing of the Republican Party in September. There's a lot of restless and very important Republicans, mostly in the Senate, who are clearly reaching a breaking point in their support of Bush and his policies in Iraq. The House Republicans are still largely with him. What we are seeing is a growing reversal of the perception that the Republicans are the party of unity and the Democrats less cohesive. The Democrats now seem to the be that unity party and the Republicans seem at odds with each other and with the majority of American citizen's disapproval of this war.

I don't know if they can really do much at this point to change that. By the time they reach what will have to be a new cohesive stand on Iraq, it will likely be too little too late to save their damaged image.

Getting a lot of candidates elected is what serves a political party the best, so the polls will tell. Over 70% of voters want the US out of Iraq, but only 40% of Republicans at this time.

It is not about what serves a political party better, it is about what serves humanity better on the broader scope. It is sad that many American lives are being lost, but a US withdrawal could result in more casualties and and insurgent takeover of an oil rich nation which could spell disaster for the free world who is dependent on the oil. What would be nice is if some other nations would pitch in and help us out.

As always, what serves the republican party best is also what is best for America, and that would be staying.

In reality it serves America best by staying there. However at this point we must insists that the Iraqi government do their part. We also must insist that the neighboring countries begin to contribute to the solution instead of the problem.

We broke it, we own it. Bottom line.

That's the question for Fred Thompson, where is he in all this? If it serves the GOP well, they'll be sure to pursuit it. Staying in Iraq or withdrawing, I'm sure they think they can have it both ways. They're desperate.

It's not about what's best for Republicans, it's about what's best for America, which has ALWAYS been the motivation of the president who simply happens to be a Republican.

I suggest you direct this question to the democrats since 'what is best for democrats' seems to be their ONLY motivation.

By the way, what is best is for us to stay and for ALL Americans, not just conservatives, to support the troops and their mission. We can debate whether we should or shouldn't after the job is done and they're home. Right now all the democrats have been successful in doing is undermining their efforts at every turn.

We can't honestly blame the Republican party, or George Bush or Dick Cheney, for the rise of radical terrorism. What will serve AMERICA is orderly withdrawal, if and when the Iraqi government or the UN (please forgive my hysterical laughter) can control the radical terrorists.
