I'm new to acting and I wanna really read up on some different acting techniques and ways to improve my acting, what books do you recommend for this?

For technique, check out anything by Uta Hagen, Stanislavsky, and Sanford Meisner or anything on their techniques. Those are the 3 major techniques taught. Personally I find that pulling from all 3 is most beneficial.

Reading on the techniques is great, but going to class and actually acting and reacting with others will help you put those techniques into practice. Go to class! :-)

Good luck!

Okay, about 7 months ago I was in the same boat as you. I read this book called "The 7 Simple Truths for the teen Actor" by LARRY SILVERBERG (I think thats the title, i can't remember it's been so long). It was awesome. It teaches you that the best way to learn to act is to actually BE the character, rather than pretend to be the character. It also teaches you that you need to actually get out there and start acting. Any experience you can get will help you with your career. I read that book, have had 2 private coaches for about..4 months and then I auditioned for an agent, got signed the next day, and now I go on auditions all the time. best of luck to you!!! Read any and all of his books!

I studied at HB Studio and am partial to Uta Hagen's texts. Also (a little dense) excellent is The Actor and The Text by Cicely Berry (of the RSC). And someone in Answers turned me onto Stella Alder on Ibsen, Strindberg and Chekhov. Each in their way give you divergent views and ideas. But as someone already said, there's no substitute for finding a good class. Remember, 'Acting is Doing'. All the Best to You!

"True or False: Heresy and Common Sense for the Actor" by David Mamet. It's a quick read, but arguably the definitive book on acting.
