Of course: a girl releases an egg only once a month and tis egg survives only 24 hours. So basically she's fertile only one day. On the other hand, sperms can survive up to 5 days, so she can get pregnant is she had sex up to 5 days before releasing the egg (ovulation)

Yes, a woman can only get pregnant when she ovulates, but the only problem is that's hard to determine. Sure about mid cycle is when you should ovulate but for some this could happen at any time, so you just never know. You know how much money is spent every year on ovulation predictors of people who are trying to get pregnant? Truth is a woman can get pregnant at any point in her cycle even if she is on the pill it can still happen. There is no 100% safety. If you have sex there is always a possibility of getting pregnant, regardless of the variables.

Technically yes, but thing this is that ovulation can be thrown off by a variety of things so may think it's a safe day and you are actually fertile. You are fertile starting 5 days before you ovulate, up until the day afterwrds. That's 7 days out of a cycle that you can get pregnant. My husband and I have succesfully avoided pregnancy by me keeping track of ovulation and my fertility signs and avoiding sex during those 7 days. We got pregnant the first month we tried with my daughter by having sex during those 7 days. We are trying for baby #2 now.

I would not suggest using this timing method though if you are not in the position to take care of a baby, because like I said your cycle can be thrown off.

Most women are most fertile in the middle of their cycles. The first day of menstruation is considered to be day 1. Most cycles last about 28 days, so the middle of the cycle would be around day 14.

All cycles are slightly different. For instance, my cycles are 31 days long, and I ovulate on day 21.

There are urine tests that can be purchased that detect the LH surge...it will be positive a day or two before ovulation is expected to occur. The 5 days surrounding the day of ovulation is the most fertile time.

Sperm can stay alive for several days, and wait around for ovulation to occur, so if she has intercourse on day 12, then ovulates on day 16, it is possible that the sperm survived, and fertilized the egg when it came out, and she got pregnant.
