Probably the cooling fan. Open the tower and make sure it's not clogged with dust.

There are a bunch of things that it could be. The most likely bet is that it's just a case fan that has crapped out but it could also be your hard drive, or a dvd/cd drive. Check to see if the noise is only a problem when a disk is in the drive. If so, that's your problem. Either way, if it is a new computer, it should still be under warranty. Contact whoever you purchased it from so they can repair it. Don't wait too long because you want them to honor the warranty.

There is a cooling fan that keeps the processor cool. There is a temperature sensor that will accelerate the fan when the temperature rises. This is normal.
If the room temperature becomes higher the fan may also accelerate.
If the processor temperature rises too much, the unit will shut down due to high temperature.
Always make sure the unit has sufficient air flow and that the air inlets are not blocked or dirt clogged. Never put the cpu in a cabinet as this only makes it hotter.

Get a bomb squad assigned to your home....hehehe..
It might be,
1. Any of the fans in the computer, not revolving properly, or having some foreign objects (as dust, paper piece or some metal object) in its path.
2. The Power supply maybe fault of getting faulty, as might be dying out either in any of its transistor, capacitor or switching components.
3. The Processor might not be cooled properly and hence might be generating sound from it.
4. If the speakers are not grounded properly, then there can be some static sounds coming from it.
These are the basic checks that can be done. Since, tis a brand new computer, it definetly would be under a warranty. Hence, it would be best to give to the dealer, who can do a more thorough check before doin any necessary modifications, if any.

Fan running at high speed making noise. Either your heat sink is not installed properly or your computor is not in a ventilated place & you are working with a very resource hungry application. Clean the heat sink manually & apply new paste between cpu & mother board.

There is dust in one of the fans, get a geeky computer friend of yours (everyone has one) to clear the dust out of the fan.

could be your CD/DVD drive, the case fans or the CPU running. Do you have a CD or DVD in the drive? Do you have a lot of info on the hard drive.
