Recently, I got this dumped on me. I have to call on past due invoices of customers. I have no idea what they are being billed for but I am now supposed to call these places and ask when they are going to pay their invoice. A lot of these invoices are from before I even started here and I resent that this is just being dumped on me with no warning or anything.
Ugggghhh!

Regarding Moonjogger past invoices ... you might ask Accounting & Computing depts if they can get you either copies of the original invoices, or a report showing what the invoices were for ... what was sold, how the purchases were authorized by the customers, etc.

We have a network of perhaps 50 computer systems running 4 kinds of operating systems, and different versions ... like maybe 3 different versions of Windows for example.

Various kinds of data need to be transferred between co-workers and places we do business with, across these different computer systems. Now there is relatively inexpensive software tools out there that can do the copy over at the click of an icon, but management not want to spend the $ ... there is some stuff on the company computer systems that was bought & paid for by employees, but there are ethical issues there ... I don't want to be in that ethical quagmire any more.

This means it is a royal pain in the rear end to get data from one kind of computer system to another, which means NO BODY wants the hassle, so it gets dumped on me to do it ... eg. run this report, access it via this back door, cut & paste to a certain folder, open a Microsoft Wizard vs. the copy, second guess everything the Wizard does, to get the data back to what it was in original copy, send the result to the person who needs it. I also spend a chunk of time each day transcribing data between computer systems.

Some of my co-workers have jobs that are an even bigger pain ... we have corporate customers that have outsourced off-shored their customer service ... so they owe us for say 100 invoices, and they send us a bank wire in which the $ amount is about 1/5 the total ... but which invoices are they paying for, there is no list (what accounting calls a remittance) with the payment. So the accounting lady calls the customer service, which is actually in a different country.

They have a hard time with accent and our language.
They know nothing about accounting.
They don't know what we mean when we say "remittance for the check" or l"list of invoices the check paid for" so the accounting lady has to make scores of phone calls through the customer company until she can get a list of what they are paying for, so we can apply the payment against the invoices.

Well come to find out, they are taking discounts they were never entitled to. Our terms are ... if you pay in 10 days you get a 2% discount ... the debt is due in 30 days.

Well they are paying after 90 days and taking a 5% discount.
Of course they don't understand when we try to tell them this is plain wrong.

Why do we even continue to do business with them?
We are making like 1% profit on them ... we would be making more if it wasn't for this hassle.

Just do it and get it done with positivity. Be known in the office as the person that can get things completed. You may get a couple crappy jobs that you have to do, but if you do them well people will start giveing you more important things.

I work in an office by myself which is usually pretty cool but if we are slow then I can go for hours without seeing or talking to another person. Having NOTHING to do sucks beyond belief!!

I work both in and out of the office. However I despise being stuck in this office, the days just drag out.

WORKING NIGHTS, THEY ASSIGN YOU AN AREA TO CHECK AND CLEAN UP BEFORE CLOSING.

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE JUST HOW SLOPPY AND NASTY PEOPLE CAN BE IN A DEPARTMENT STORE.

I HATE WORKING NIGHTS.
