I have found some little bugs that jump in my bathroom. I noticed some in my bed, and I THINK I saw one in my son's bed too. Now, I could be paranoid because we had a bad case of the fleas a year ago, but I am afraid that we have them again. We have one cat, and one dog. We use Frontline on both our animlas, but I was 2 days late putting it on this month. I checked our animals for bugs, but I did not see any. Could these bugs be something else other than fleas? If so, What? I have heard of Springtails, but how do I know what the difference is?!! Thank you!

Springtails will generally be smaller than fleas and are a darker gray color (see photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lordv/379214157/ ) or if brown, rounder and more "plump" appearing than a flea (http://www.flickr.com/photos/lordv/305027582/ ). They're often found around water.

Fleas will be a little larger, more of a brown color, and somewhat flattened side to side: http://www.naturespet.com/pics/flea.jpg

The best way to distinguish between the two is to use a microscope - springtails have a forked appendage under their body that they use for jumping that fleas don't have (see at the left in this photo: http://www.extension.umn.edu/projects/yardandgarden/EntWeb/Galleries/galleryimages/springtail-jdh.jpg ).

you've definitely got them again..flea infestation starts with the cat..front line is okay for the cat ..this is a preventative..front line for the dogs is not as good as the label says..flea powder is better..DON'T USE POWDER AND FRONT LINE TOGETHER..on the cat this would be toxic..and very bad for the dogs..Powder all the rooms especially under the beds..wash all the sheets AND blankets..turn the mattresses..and use a protective cover over the mattress..put powder around the edges of the room paying paticular attention to the door sill..pretend you are keeping out blood sucking monsters like vampires and completely circle all the rooms including the bathroom with powder..wash your sons hair in suleo shampoo..use a strong detergent /disinfectant like jeyes fluid.around the outside of the house..drains and downpipes..you should see a difference within a week..good luck..( don't bother to train these fleas ..Only human fleas can be trained)

Probably fleas but could also be bed bugs although Im not sure whether they jump or not. You may want to bomb the house just to make sure and replace your mattresses as well if they do turn out to be bed bugs.

They sound like fleas to me. They are probably living in your furniture and feeding on you, since the cat and dog are inaccessible. Shower wash all your sheets and spray your couch with febreze. If that doesn't work you could always get a flea bomb but you should at least try.

Have you or your family noticed any tiny itchy bumps? Fleas hop into your home on all sorts of things not just your pets. Might not be a bad idea to set off a flea bomb.

well, if you didnt know, fleas can live in your carpet for up to a year, go to your vet and bring a sample of the bug if you can catch one, but make sure it cant get out of what its in so it cant infect other pets there, just make sure if you get a dead one you dont squish it. while your at the vet get the flea medication your vet recommends hope this helps!

P.S. wash your sheets :P
