I don't think it is hype, but I also don't think ours is the best either. I have worked as a nurse all over the world in my lifetime, the best hospitals I have ever seen and the best healthcare system was in Sweden.
It seems to me our hospitals preach alot about infection control, but are rather lazy in maintaining it. And our health care system is laughable, one in which only the weathy get truly adequate care.

The answer to the question as to who has the best health care is dependent on whether you speak of general health care or emergency medicine. In this country, we are really good at treating trauma more than anything else. You have a much better chance in this country surviving the aftermath of an automobile accident then you are in general health care, which is the biggest problem here in the US. In other words, suffer a heart attack in the US and you are likely to live. But seek treatment to prevent that heart attack with medication and this is where we have a problem. We in the US spend more in trauma care than in preventative care.

You have been grossly misinformed. The US Healthcare system is one of the worst. This is one of the things the Clinton Administration was working on.
One of the problems is the high cost. The doctors (especially here in Pennsylvania) have such a high malpractice insurance. Doctors here in PA are moving to other states.
The other problem is the high cost of drugs. Why is it that people in the US pay outrageous prices for prescription drugs while our neighbors in Canada and Mexico don't? The US has done everything they can to stop us from buying the same drugs from there cheaper.
Why is it that people are traveling to India and Thailand to have surgery when the cost is about 1/5 that it is here?
Please rethink your question.

Some say that Canada has the best, others say England. However, I have friends in both contries and they say it is the worst. They have to wait for days, even weeks, to be seen by a doctor, so they end up crossing the border to the United States to get good health care. If Canada was so good, then why do the Canadians come to the U.S. to get better care?

We've got the best system in terms of research, education, personnel, and innovation.
We've got one of the worst in terms of services rendered.
