A bank statement is really for reconcilliation. What it means is that what the bank has paid out from your account. Like, if you had 4 bank deposits and wrote 30 checks, your bank statement may show 3 deposits and 28 checks depending on what day it comes out. If you're super busy, you can write all the checks and then subtract from the balance of the deposits at the end of a week, when you let it go past that, you really play with fire. Quicken basic is a pretty good way to keep track.

I've never even written in my checkbook! I usually do all balancing in my head; I always know how much money I have, what I owe, et c.

Haven't had a bank account for years now. It cost me way too much money. But when I did have one the answer is no I didn't balance it. Hey, maybe that is one of the reasons it cost me so much money.
