Hi, I'm from foreign country, and I whimsically picked the name "KATY" because my given (foreign) name was so hard to pronounce. Now I'm going off to college and about to start a new life, and thinking of changing my name. I want a name more professional, strong and classy but not too feminine.

I plan to go to medical school and be a doctor one day.
also I don't really want to reveal my origin, but my last name is "Park" If it helps.

I was thinking Jacqueline, Katherine.....
so any advice??

Katherine's the way to go. Katy is the most common nickname/short hand for Katherine, so there wouldn't be any confusion what so ever. In fact, it would be my guess that people already assume your name is Katherine and that you go by Katy. From there, you just need to decide how you want to spell it since there's so many variations: Katherine, Katharine, Catherine, or Catharine. I believe those are the most common spelling variations for this name. Hope this helps!

I would suggest that either you keep the name you already gave yourself or stick with something remotely similar such as Katherine. You may want to consider simply using a more easy to pronounce version of your real name. Medical schools are much more likely to accept students with foreign sounding names because it promotes diversity. Go to any hospital and you will quickly find that hard to pronounce names are a staple in the medical community. Perhaps your name may be an issue in other occupations, but the medical community tends to favor foreign students.

From a purely professional standpoint, I would stick with your real name and then just use Katy as an alias. Changing your name isn't going to help your career.

It would probably be easier for you to change your name to something that Katy could come from.
Katherine
Caitlin
Katrina
Katarina
Katya
Kate

If you don't like any of those or don't care about sticking with something close to Katy-
Jacqueline is very nice
Diana
Angela
Elisabeth
Vivian
Christina
Charlotte
Josephine
Susan
Camille
Laura

Honestly, I think you could go by your given name if you'd like, too. I know tons of people with foreign names that are hard to spell or pronounce at first, but people get used to them quickly. But, if you don't mind picking a new name, that sounds like it could be a lot of fun :) Good luck!

Miss Park,

Try Kate or Katherine

I use Cate and am a professional person.

The name will work as a doctor, lawyer, sales etc.

I choose to use it because I worked with men and it was a strong name at meetings , yet it still reflects the feminine classy side of who I am.

What about just going by "Kate"? That way it won't confuse people who already know you, and I think that Kate sounds very professional. In fact, I have a good friend in her second year med school right now and her name is Kate! Kate Park... very professional. Katherine, Kathleen, and Katelyn are also nice. Best of luck with med school and your future! :)
