Age? How long ago did you start menstruating?
It could be that you are young and starting out so you will be irregular for a while.
Or it could be stress, or you are pregnant.

"If you have a late period and a negative pregnancy test, then consider whether or not you’ve recently been sick, gained or lost a significant amount of weight, have been under excessive stress or have taken any new medications. All of these things can affect your menstrual cycle and cause you to have irregular periods. Additionally, certain types of birth control, including the birth control pill, Depo-Provera and Norplant, can cause you to have menstrual cycles disturbances. Depends how old you are. I am in my twentys and on birth control and my periods still never come on the same day every month. If you are younger your period is never the same. Very rarely is there young people where there peiod comes on the same day. DOn't panic it very normal. If you play sports that may also change your cycle. Don't worry, very normal.

If you've just started having your period, your cycle is not regular yet. If you've had your period for a while now, your cycle is probably changing.
Also, if you have a poor diet, it can result in irregular or missing periods.

how long have you had your period? usually the 1st few years of your period (depending on the person) can be quite irregular. and if you aren't on your 1st few years just keep in mind, you're body isn't going to be perfectly on schedule every time, you're only human. if you're getting cramps, it's probably on it's way - don't worry yourself. well i hope it helped! ta!
