I have to go with Dan Marino. The guy just never had the complete team around him that most other QBs have had. I also look at Don Merideth of the 60's Cowboys and Warren Moon. Both took their lumps, but both played the game well for teams that just couldn't catch a break in the big games.

Archie Manning, Fran Tarkenton, Jim Kelly, Dan Marino. I think Marino is overrated as a QB. He could throw the football as well as anyone ever, but lacked the leadership skills neccessary for the most important position in sports. I think all three listed above were actually better QB's. I think if Tarkenton and Favre had not played half their games in snow, they would be way ahead of Marino in stats. Kelly played in the third worst weather city also. Tarkenton also played his whole career before all the rule changes benefitted the passing game of today. Back then, if you threw for 3,000 yds. - you had a monster year! Now 4,000 is fairly routine.

Dan Marino holds most of the major NFL career passing records, but has no Super Bowl ring. It's really a no-brainer that he's the answer to your question. Among older quarterbacks, you have to look at Sonny Jurgensen, who played in one Super Bowl for the Washington Redskins, but lost.

Dan Marino by far. He is a hall of fame QB who holds numerous passing records in the nfl. He played in a superbowl in his second year, but fell short. He always had good seasons passing the ball and did hold the single season passing TD record before peyton manning broke it back in 2004 by 1 TD. He is the nfl's career leader in passing yards with well over 50,000 career passing yards.
