The end of the world on 12/12/2012 is not what most conceive it to be! Even before human beings came into existence... nature existed! Nothing went wrong during those times except the calamities of nature that formed a part of the evolution! When human beings descended into the scene... they more or less never cared for nature! The distortion that occurred in the past 30 years or so dwarfs what happened in thousands of years in the past.
About 3600 years before came Lord Krishna who gave the doctrine of Bhagavad Gita to mankind. The situation during the times of Lord Krishna was similar as it exists today. Lawlessness all over... committing sin became a part of daily routine. Lord Krishna was an Avatar in Hinduism (God manifest in human form)! The advent of Lord Krishna became necessary as Dharma (righteousness) had to be re-established.
In the present people wait with abated breath coming of Bhagwan Kalki (an Avatar of the present era) who shall re-establish order resulting in dawn of the golden era! Every change of era results in bloodshed and upheaval of unprecedented magnitude. It is not 285, 09824 odd years or so after which change of an era occurs. The change of every era occurs between 3000 to 5000 years. Massive atmospheric changes occur with the change of an era.
When a new era starts... the clock strikes 12 o'clock in the noon. By the time clock rings 5 a.m. in the morning... it is deep dense hour of the night. The dawn is about to occur. Between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. the mankind witnesses a complete upheaval of the society. In 2012, the world shall witness a fight to finish between Christianity and Islamic Dharma... 1200 million people are expected to perish! A full-scale nuclear war... the third world war shall announce the end of the present era!
The massive nuclear explosions would cause a slight tilt in the rotation of Mother Earth. Unbearable global warming, melting of icecaps, massive floods, earthquakes, sea waters rising by 10 to 12 feet, waves as high as 1000 feet would be witnessed all over! Nothing would result on its own... all is the result of mass karma practiced by 6500 million people existing on Mother Earth! In the system of God nothing occurs by chance... all is the result of a system that cannot err! We shall reap the fruits of karma we have practiced for long. I worried about 2012 also, but there is no reason to worry. My mom said when she was young the world will end and it didn't I heard that it will end 9/11/07 on a marazin cover (I doubt that). Some people think it's the end because the Mayan people was making a calander for the Earth or something like that and they didn't get a passed 2012. I think that the world will not end because the Mayans probley just got killed before they could finish the calander. I saw in a magazin that showed a book that said something the code the mayans made up will stop at 2012 and that there will be huge global change and exciting events will come and it would be the year of destiny. Just because the Mayans made a calander about the world and stopped at 2012 doesn't mean that they set that to be the end of the world time, did God right that calander?? No. So nobody knows when the end of the world will come unless it straight up said it in the Bible and I heard that the Bible will not tell when the end of the world will come. It's Jesus choice when the world will end and he changes his mind sometimes about that, like he might have about the weather that happens that next day.
And if the people can't even predict tommorow's weather correct all the time, then what makes people think that they can predict when the world is going to end?? And if it did then why are they making all these predictions of what will happen to the Earth it 2020 or 2030 or 2050 or 2100 then?? If ended then all they would see is a blanke planet or no planet at all. Ok, they might see God and some Heaven people working on the Earth again, but why would there be people, I saw preview about 2050 and it showed a few people and I doubt that they was spirits (they looked solid and I think spirits are see though). So don't worry about that stuff just think "It's no some code's or person's or book's or magazin's choice when the world will end, it's Jesus and sometimes he can change his mind."
Don't worry.
Bye bye.

I think you must have missed something. The poles can switch without the Earth having to switch rotations. If this were to actually happen the way you state, at some point before the Earth completely stopped rotating and before it reversed, everything on the surface would sail out into space from the loss of gravity; people, animals, plants, water, dirt and probably even some pretty big chunks of bedrock.
That's not going to happen so you can stop worrying. In the past 15 million years, there have been four reversals every 1 million years, or about one shift each 250,000 years. All that will mainly occur is the compass needle will point the opposite direction.
The sun reverses its magnetic field like clockwork every eleven years at the peak of the sunspot cycle. The next solar flip is due in 2012.
But there's no need to throw away your old compasses. A reversal usually takes hundreds or thousands of years to complete.

Hurry up, you're going to miss your ride on the mother ship!
Planets "aligning" doesn't mean squat. I bet you couldn't look out in the night sky and identify a planet. They've aligned lots before and not a thing happens.
The earth won't stop rotating. It only slows its rotation rate to conserve angular momentum with the moon. But don't worry about trying to understand that, that's advanced physics and it looks like you don't have a handle on basic freshman science yet. The magnetic poles reverse, but that's happened hundreds of times in earth history. If you're not migrating, it probably won't affect you.
Sure, there are people who believe it will be a problem. But what people "believe" doesn't matter, their opinions on the basics of physics have no bearing on the laws of physics. These are the same people who believed it would and in 4/4/04 and 6/6/06......and so on....... Unfortunately, they didn't all get in line and try to get on the mothership when Hale-Bopp came along.

There was a complete planetery alignment on may 5th 2000,a very very rare event and nothing crazy happened. The earths magnetic field is due for a flip and indications are that it may happen soon(within 2 thousand years), but it should take 2 to 10000 years to complete once we notice its happening. There will be an increase in solar radiation while the magnetic field drops for a short period, but we are sufficiently advanced to have develeped suncreen and houses to hide behind.
Try not to worry about these kinds of things.

The planets have lined up before (in the late 70's or early 80's) and nothing happened. The moon and sun exerts far more gravitational force on the earth than all the rest of the planets combined. So nothing will happen.

I believe that happened in a "Dr Who" episode, can't remember how he stopped it. I mean come on, seriously??? We put the Earth through so much, I doubt that the planets alinement will be the end of it, it will be from our own doing. And it won't happen on 12/12/12, or december 31, 1999.

no! Don't be nervouse by false reports. Nobody know's when the world is going to end but God regardless if people believe in that or not! They said the same thing in 2000 for Y2K. They said it numerous times before and they have all been WRONG! Just enjoy your life for today and not for 5 years from now that you cannot even see. One thing I am sure of is that 150,000 people die each day, so who cares about 2012...just hope and pray you wake up tomarrow and get to enjoy that too.

As a geologist, I can tell you that it is absolutely false. There is no frictional forces from distant planets that can affect the Earth's rotation. It is just one of those odometer moments that will pass without incident like y2k.

if we can prevent or slow down global warming and and many other things the easth wont end for some time, but 2012 is so sudden considering we are still like a couple hundred years from breaking the ozone or something
